The Quirk and Origins of Aoyama in My Hero Academia

Despite being a deuteragonist in the popular animanga My Hero Academia, Aoyamna Yuga did not receive much love from fans. This could be due to the way he was initially portrayed, which made it difficult for viewers to take him seriously. His Quirk was not what one would typically expect from a shonen main character, and he was often used for comedic purposes. As a result, viewers did not have a strong opinion about him.

Despite some anime-only fans stumbling upon material on the internet that may have caused them to question whether Aoyama is Quirkless in My Hero Academia, it should be clarified that he does indeed possess a Quirk. The Navel Laser Quirk was revealed in the early stages of the animanga series, during Aoyama’s initial introduction to viewers.

The manga chapters hold the answer to the question of Aoyama’s Quirkless birth. In the later stages of the manga, it was revealed that Aoyama, like Midoriya, was born without a Quirk. This realization devastated both him and his parents, as he was not gifted with any extraordinary powers.

Despite their concerns about being outcasts in a society where Quirks and unique abilities were the norm, his parents’ efforts allowed him to acquire the Navel Laser Quirk. However, the source of this Quirk was one of the most sinister entities in the world.

Aoyama’s Quirk was bestowed upon him by All For One, the main antagonist of the series. Coming from an affluent family, Aoyama’s parents were determined to prevent their son from feeling like an outsider within their society. In a state of desperation, they reached out to All For One and requested that he grant their son a Quirk.

AFO agreed, but he also requested something in exchange. As part of the deal, Aoyama’s parents agreed to serve AFO and provided him with a wealth of classified information from the U.A. academy, with their son Aoyama also being involved. This revelation sent shockwaves through the hero community as the identity of the traitor was finally uncovered in the manga.

Despite not being the most fascinating Quirk, Aoyama’s Navel Laser was highly practical. Initially, the laser could only be used for one second before requiring a cooldown period. Prolonging its usage resulted in intense pain for Aoyama. Nevertheless, as time passed, the Laser grew in strength and was able to penetrate through two meters of solid concrete.

In the earlier episodes of the animanga series, he pushed his body to the brink of exhaustion in his training. Despite the pain, he persisted in practicing firing his laser, gradually increasing his body’s endurance. Eventually, he achieved the ability to fire the laser for longer than one second, as demonstrated by his use of his ultimate move, Navel Saber.

Despite the fact that his Quirk evolved and was depicted in the manga series, Aoyama and Toru teamed up to battle Kunieda. During the intense fight, Aoyama’s Quirk became so strong that it disrupted Toru’s Quirk, making her visible again. Toru attributed this change to the evolution of Aoyama’s Quirk, which occurred when he was pushed to the brink of death.
