This situation likely frustrates Netflix, as some of its top-performing titles are merely licensed acquisitions. For instance, The Super Mario Bros Movie has maintained a spot in Netflix’s top 10 chart throughout 2024, and Suits experienced renewed popularity after being added to the platform.
However, the real disappointment lies with viewers. One of the most frustrating aspects of the streaming era is the lack of stability with any single service (Netflix has even licensed out its own original productions, such as The Power of the Dog).

Reasons Behind Jane the Virgin’s Removal
Jane the Virgin departed from Netflix because the platform chose not to renew its contract with The CW, making the show available for other streaming services.
The partnership between Netflix and The CW began in 2011, allowing Netflix to have first access to completed seasons following their television broadcasts. This arrangement was beneficial for both parties: shows that failed to attract a large audience could gain additional exposure on Netflix.
It’s important to note that Jane the Virgin isn’t the only concern for viewers. The arrangement also involved Warner Bros. Discovery, the partial owner of The CW, which wishes to reclaim its titles for its own streaming platform, Max.
On a positive note, Jane the Virgin has the potential to return to Netflix; the company may bid for the streaming rights like any other competitor.
When Did It Leave?
Jane the Virgin officially left Netflix on September 6, 2024, according to the streaming service, which listed the final day to view it as September 5.
This provided fans with limited time to binge-watch all five seasons (which total 99 episodes). That’s quite a challenge, if you ask me!
“They’re taking Jane the Virgin off Netflix I should just die,” one user tweeted. “Netflix you raggedy b*tch if you take Jane the Virgin off I’m canceling my subscription,” another wrote.

The series, which is a satirical telenovela created by Jennie Snyder Urman, features Gina Rodriguez as Jane, a devout young woman who becomes pregnant after a mishap involving artificial insemination.
Where Will Jane the Virgin Go Next?
As of now, no streaming service has officially acquired Jane the Virgin, but given Warner Bros.’ partial ownership of The CW, it is highly likely that the series will find its new home on Max.
Max serves as the primary platform for Warner Bros. content, and because it’s the largest streamer with ties to CW shows, there’s a good chance this is where Jane the Virgin will end up.
