Jessica Gunning, known for her role as stalker Martha Scott in Baby Reindeer, recently shared the reason behind her absence from social media. Surprisingly, it’s not for the reason one might assume.
In the past week, discussions surrounding Richard Gadd’s popular Netflix series have primarily centered around Fiona Harvey, who was accused of being the true Martha. This was sparked by her appearance on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored.
However, Gunning intentionally refrained from researching the true Martha in order to not hinder her performance, emphasizing that it is not the focus of the show.
Despite everything mentioned, Baby Reindeer is not the reason she is not on social media.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gunning clarified that she is not active on social media and therefore has not been able to view many of the comments.
When questioned about it, she responded with, “I’m not sure. I suppose it’s because I’m 37 and I feel like I’m too old for it now. I never really used Facebook, so I never got into it.”
“I struggle to understand as well. I tend to either panic about trying to be funny or overthink it.”
Despite not seeing all of the feedback, Gunning acknowledges that the response to her work has been positive. “Based on what I have seen, it seems like everyone has been responding positively to it,”she commented.
Despite any negative responses, I find it equally intriguing. This show demonstrates that audiences are eager for complex and unconventional narratives.
“Not everything needs to be neatly resolved. Life is complex and, as Richard himself openly admits, mistakes were made. It is crucial that he shares his story from his perspective.”
Gunning’s future projects include her involvement in writing Season 3 of the comedy thriller series The Outlaws, set to debut at the end of May.
She is currently involved in a film that is about to begin production, however, she is not at liberty to disclose any information about it at this time.
“She added that the play I did with Cate Blanchett is being produced by her. The announcement will be made soon. It is a light-hearted action comedy.”
