Hololive’s Minato Aqua held a successful concert on August 28 to mark her graduation from Hololive. The event garnered a remarkable number of concurrent viewers, surpassing any other VTuber event.
The festive live broadcast lasted for slightly more than an hour, showcasing a variety of songs performed by Aqua and fellow Hololive members. At its height, this stream attracted 749,854 viewers, the highest number for any VTuber event to date, as recorded by Playboard.
Minato Aqua’s graduation livestream reached a peak of 963,662 simultaneous viewers, but this number may have been artificially inflated due to a bug in YouTube’s view counting system. The sudden surge was short-lived and quickly returned to a more accurate count.
Aqua’s graduation stream also garnered an impressive $237,571 in Superchat earnings, making it the second highest-earning stream in the VTuber industry. The only stream to surpass this achievement was Kiryu Coco’s graduation on July 1, 2021, which received an unparalleled $306,442 in donations from devoted fans.
Just like Aqua’s send-off, Kiryu Coco’s graduation also had the highest number of viewers for any VTuber stream. It reached a peak of 483,873 concurrent viewers, an impressive accomplishment that was ultimately surpassed by another member of the Hololive 2nd Generation.
This most recent graduation not only secured its position as one of the platform’s most historic moments, but also ranked as the eighth most superchatted stream on YouTube, making it the second most superchatted VTuber stream of all time.
The stream’s success is not unexpected, considering the rarity of such occurrences. Despite introducing its first members in 2017, Hololive’s main branch has experienced only three instances of voluntary departures: Minato Aqua, Kiryu Coco, and Mano Aloe.
Similarly, Tsukumo Sana, Magni Dezmond, and Noir Vesper are the only members of Hololive EN and Holostars EN who have remained in their respective groups.
Despite various reasons, such as the cases of Uruha Rushia and Yozora Mel, several members have been terminated. In 2020, Hololive made the decision to shut down its Chinese branch due to the controversy surrounding Kiryu Coco, which resulted in Cover Corp’s withdrawal from Bilibili. However, earlier this year, they made a comeback on the platform.
