Four Knights of the Apocalypse Season 2 Episode 2: Dealing with the Aftermath of Chaos in Liones
A Sleepless Night for the Four Knights
While the first episode portrayed Percival and his allies falling asleep almost immediately after assisting the people of Liones, in Episode 2, it becomes clear that the other knights are struggling to rest. Each knight copes with the chaotic aftermath differently, taking the night to reflect on their experiences.
Lancelot grapples with Jericho’s affections and has conflicting thoughts about Guinevere. Thetis, the leading mage of Liones and a safeguard for Elizabeth, argues with Lancelot regarding the losses sustained by Liones, which does little to settle his troubled mind. Nostalgically, he reminisces about Guinevere’s youthful innocence, while she eagerly anticipates reuniting with him.
Tristan and Gawain find it particularly difficult to sleep. As depicted in this episode, Tristan is frustrated by his parents, Meliodas and Elizabeth, treating him like a child, leading him to train late into the night. Gawain, on the other hand, is tormented by the fear of returning home in shame.
An Unexpected Meeting: King and Queen
The encounter with King Meliodas and Queen Elizabeth catches Percival’s group off guard, particularly Ann, who was unprepared for Meliodas’s youthful demeanor. They were equally astonished to discover that Tristan is the offspring of Meliodas and Elizabeth.
The shocking revelation in this episode for Percival was Meliodas suggesting that his companions would part ways with him. They had assumed that as one of the designated Four Knights, they would travel together, but Meliodas indicated they would continue their training as Holy Knights separately.
After much emotional turmoil, Meliodas clarified his earlier remarks. He knighted each member of the group, emphasizing the importance of moving on rather than splitting up. Percival reflected on the importance of his friends, crediting them for his survival and success in reaching Liones.
Significant Goals and Rising Stakes
After this crucial misunderstanding, the pivotal meeting commenced. The Four Knights, along with Percival’s group and Tristan’s team, gathered to converse with King Meliodas and Thetis. Following introductions, they were informed of their mission: to dismantle Camelot. This aligns with the prophecy suggesting a need to “destroy the world,”a concept hinted at by Lancelot earlier.
Although Camelot isn’t situated in the physical realm due to Arthur’s Chaos magic, its presence wreaks havoc on the tangible world. Landscapes, entire ecosystems, and communities are sacrificed to uphold Camelot’s existence.
Percival’s grandfather, Varghese, warned Meliodas of Arthur’s destructive influence. Although Meliodas proposed adopting Percival, Varghese insisted on raising him personally, vowing to protect him at all costs. Meliodas, proud of keeping his promise, found Percival’s subsequent suggestion of a direct assault on Camelot quite fiery.
Challenges Ahead: Prophecy Complications and Next Steps
The foreboding second prophecy from episode 18 has materialized, creating barriers to any plans of retaliation. Thetis reiterated it, detailing the events that unfolded. The Four Knights found hope diminished after the treachery of Jericho, who killed a prisoner of war.
According to Meliodas, Camelot’s Chaos Knights possess unique emblems from Arthur Pendragon that allow entry past the barriers of the physical realm. The prisoner’s demise complicates matters, preventing Liones’ forces, as well as fae, giants, goddesses, and demons, from breaching Camelot.
Meliodas, being a demon, cannot enter Camelot, although mixed-blood individuals like Lancelot and Tristan might. Although a concrete strategy is not yet devised, Percival lifts everyone’s spirits with the idea of exploring Britannia, embarking on an adventure while searching for a path into Camelot.
Final Reflections
Episode 2 of Four Knights of the Apocalypse serves as a transitional episode, providing a much-needed respite from the relentless battles witnessed during the Chaos in Liones arc, the longest arc in both manga and anime, comprising 31 manga chapters and eight anime episodes.
This episode marks the beginning of the Wolnack Arc, where our heroes have much ground to cover before confronting Arthur. The challenges with the resurrected Ten Commandments illustrate their need for preparation.
As a new adventure unfolds and the group expands, it will be intriguing to observe the dynamics between the characters as they embark on this journey together.
