A devoted fan of The Shining constructed an impressive replica of the movie’s iconic hedge maze – however, it appears to have become haunted, possibly due to its striking resemblance to the original source material.
Despite its polarizing nature, Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining is widely considered one of the greatest horror films ever made due to its distinctive aesthetic and haunting atmosphere. The film’s enduring visual appeal has contributed to its reputation as a timeless classic.
Photographer and model Sarah McGonagall is a devoted fan who recently shared her creations of The Outlook Hotel’s maze and elevator doors. These replicas, which she crafted herself, are exact life-size replicas based on their appearance in the film.
Regrettably, the duplicate may be overly precise. McGonagall disclosed in a post on X that she has come to suspect it is haunted.
So remember how I built a life-size replica of the maze and elevator doors from “The Shining” a few years ago, and I put them in a closed-off room to keep them safe? Well, recently I’ve been spending more time in there to strengthen the maze and I’m about 98.4% sure it’s haunted. pic.twitter.com/7vpLywZmD8

McGonagall shares in the discussion that she was accompanied by her cat, Beetlejuice, when an odd occurrence took place. Her usually disinterested feline suddenly became fixated on the room, yet when she went to investigate, the cat refused to follow.
Despite not noticing anything out of the ordinary at the time, the situation did not end there. The following day, she discovered a replica of the stone ashtray from the movie covered in ants, and she was unable to determine where they had come from.
“During the summertime, I occasionally find a few small ants in my kitchen,”McGonagall explained. “However, these ants were unusually large. I noticed that there were no stray ants on the table where the ashtray was placed, not even on the sides, only on the top.”
Despite ongoing bizarre occurrences, McGonagall experienced another strange incident while working on the maze. She noticed that her phone had suddenly stopped playing a video and instead displayed a mysterious search of “m m m m”in the browser.
As she wrote the thread, things became even stranger. She claimed to hear the faint meowing of a small kitten, despite being alone in the room. However, her cats were both sound asleep on a different floor of the house and had no way of entering the room.
Fans who follow her on social media are aware of her fascination with the macabre. She clarified to them that owning a replica of a “cursed”maze is not out of the ordinary for her.
“In a later X post, McGonagall revealed, “I have a headless body in my basement, my brother in Christ. I also happen to own various coffins and keep a demon baby in my dresser. If you look on Google Maps, you can even see my giant skeleton from space. It’s all just part of the normalcy here.”
If you lack the courage to create your own cursed hedge maze, you can still opt for these 12 horror movies to look forward to in 2024.
