The Simpsons Will Bring Back Iconic Guest Star After 30 Years

Great news for Simpsons fans! It appears that Homer’s brother, known as “Unky”Herb Simpson, may be making a return to the animated series.

During the Talkin’ Simpsons podcast hosted by Brendan Dando, The Simpsons producer/writer Michael Price revealed that Unky Herb would be returning.

Dando presented a roster of confirmed guest stars for the highly anticipated premiere of the upcoming season, Bart’s Birthday. Among the confirmed guests are familiar faces such as Danny DeVito, who had previously appeared in the show as Homer’s half-brother, Herb Powell.

“During the interview, Dando pleaded with Price to confirm that Unky Herb would be coming back.”

“Price slyly mentioned that Danny Devito will be reprising his role from a previous episode on the show. He also noted that executive producer Mat Selman described the upcoming episode as a wild and ambitious one.”

The conversation begins at 19:28 in the video located at https://youtu.be/96npTj9l3ZU.

Price disclosed that although Bart’s birthday plays a role in the story, it is only a minor aspect. Additionally, other characters make appearances for undisclosed reasons.

Unky Herb, also known as Herb Powell, is a beloved character on The Simpsons who was last seen in the Season 3 episode Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes in 1992. In this episode, Herb, who is struggling financially, attempts to deceive his way back to prosperity.

Homer and Herb share a half-sibling bond as Herb is the result of a secret relationship between Abe Simpson and a carnival employee. After being born, Herb was given up for adoption and was brought up by the Powells, a family who ran a gas station in Shelbyville.

In a Season 24 cameo, DeVito once again played the role of Herb, but this time he only appeared through a phone call. During the call, he straightforwardly informs Homer that he is once again “poor.”

Bart’s Birthday has announced an incredibly star-studded cast list. Along with the return of DeVito, the episode will feature surprise appearances from John Cena, Tom Hanks, and Joel McHale, all in undisclosed roles. The Simpsons’ former writer, Conan O’Brien, will also make an appearance as himself.

The Season 36 premiere of The Simpsons, titled “Bart’s Birthday,”will be broadcasted on FOX on Sunday, September 29. The episode will also be accessible on Disney+ starting Wednesday, October 2.
