The One Piece anime has achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the first TV show to have over 230 episodes with a rating of 9 or higher on IMDb. This accounts for approximately 20% of the 1114 episodes that have been released. While this may not seem like a significant proportion, the fact that the series has consistently maintained similar ratings over the course of 25 years is truly impressive.
The plot of One Piece revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy who possesses unique Devil Fruit abilities. After befriending the renowned pirate Red-haired Shanks, Luffy sets out on a quest to become a pirate. Along the way, he gathers a crew of loyal members known as the Straw Hat Pirates, who aid him in his pursuit of finding the fabled treasure known as the One Piece.
One Piece anime hits record-breaking milestone with 230 episodes rated over 9 stars
With the recent airing of One Piece episode 1112, titled ‘Clash! Shanks vs. Eustass Kid,’ the anime has achieved a new milestone as the first television show to have 230 episodes with a rating of 9+ on IMDb.
The One Piece anime currently consists of 1114 episodes. This means that out of the entire catalogue, approximately 20% (230 episodes) have received high ratings. Therefore, it could be argued that having 230 high-rated episodes is a normal occurrence for the series.
Despite being on air since 1999, the series has likely undergone the most cultural changes compared to other shows. Nonetheless, it is impressive that about 20% of its episodes have received a 9+ rating.
Despite having 230 episodes with ratings of 9 or higher, none of the episodes have been rated a perfect 10. This could possibly be due to deliberate negative reviews from fans of other anime series.
How Fans Reacted to One Piece Anime’s Achievement
The One Piece anime’s achievement was met with great joy from numerous fans, as it was their most beloved anime. This was then accompanied by an abundance of praise for the anime, solidifying its superiority over its rivals.
“What you expected from one piece,”one fan said.
Despite this, many fans disagreed with this perspective as it was not a fair comparison to other anime. The majority of anime series do not even have 200 episodes, making it unjust to compare them to a series with over 1000 episodes.
“How many other shows have more than 1000 episodes though? Percentage wise that’s 20%. I’m fairly certain other anime out there can easily hit that same percentage lol,”another fan argued.
“well barely any shows have ever gone on as long so I mean… hardly much of a fair comparison tbh,”another fan added.
Additionally, even though the anime had a total of 1114 episodes, the fact that only 230 of them received a rating of 9 or higher meant that only 20% of the episodes were well-received by fans. This was a surprise for fans, who had higher expectations for the series. As a result, the achievement was not as impressive as they had hoped.
Despite having approximately 50% of episodes with 9+ ratings, popular anime such as Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen did not receive much praise from fans online.
