Meemaw, the beloved character from Young Sheldon, is connected to an upcoming action film through an actress from The Big Bang Theory. However, things are not as they appear.
In Young Sheldon, Meemaw, portrayed by Annie Potts, not only lost all of her possessions but is also currently confined to her house due to a police raid on her illegal gambling operation. Fans are speculating that this experience may have contributed to her significant transformation in The Big Bang Theory. Additionally, many are curious about June Squibb’s role as Meemaw in an upcoming action film.
Despite speculation, Squibb will not be revisiting her role as Meemaw for an action film. Instead, she will portray a different grandmother in the upcoming movie Thelma, set to premiere on June 21. The film follows the journey of 93-year-old Thelma Post, who falls victim to a phone scam and sets out to reclaim what is rightfully hers.
Now that the first official poster for Thelma has been released, comparisons to Meemaw have been flooding in, and it’s not hard to understand why. The character of Thelma, introduced in TBBT, shares many similarities with Meemaw in her older years, with both being 93 years old.
Thelma’s new set of grandchildren is where the similarities between her and Louise end. Despite her innocent demeanor, Thelma fell for a fake call from her supposed grandson, who turned out to be a scammer.
It is remarkable that Thelma is June Squibb’s first leading role, especially at the age of 94. In an interview with UPI, Squibb expressed her appreciation for the strong portrayal of age in the film. She finds it exciting to see an older character taking on a leading role.
Building on Tom Cruise’s performance in Mission: Impossible, Squibb also disclosed to Collider that she personally performed many of the stunts in the film.
Squibb expressed her enjoyment of the experience, stating, “I loved it. I pushed myself, you might say. I’ve always been physically active. I danced for three years, so I knew I could still move my body, and I definitely did. And driving the scooter was a blast. It was so much fun.”
