The true reason behind Boruto avoiding using Karma around Kawaki

Despite returning from the timeskip as a formidable force, Boruto caught the attention of fans due to his reluctance to utilize Karma unless absolutely necessary. While many attributed this to the potential Karma Resonance when near Kawaki, there may be another underlying reason for his hesitation.

According to a popular theory surrounding social media, Boruto’s reluctance to use Karma may stem from the fear of Momoshiki gradually taking over his mind. This adds a new level of intricacy to the main character, as he appears to adopt some of Momoshiki’s characteristics while fighting on his current mission.

Please note: This article includes spoilers for the series.

A Possible Explanation for Boruto’s Karma: Merging with Momoshiki?

A recent theory proposed on X and Reddit suggests that the protagonist’s reluctance to use Karma may be due to the possibility of him merging with Momoshiki. This was evident in chapter 9 of the Two Blue Vortex manga, where he refused to use Karma during his confrontation with Kawaki.

This implies that the Otsutsuki is still present within the protagonist’s body and gradually gains control when Karma is activated. One prominent indication of this is seen in Boruto’s altered demeanor while using Karma. When not under its influence, he avoids conflict unless absolutely necessary and is more reserved in his speech. However, when Karma is activated, he becomes more arrogant and aggressive in battle, channeling Momoshiki’s influence.

Sasuke Uchiha likely observed this during their training together, and the protagonist likely dedicated their efforts towards mastering it during the three-year timeskip. This suggests that they still possess some level of control over the Karma, but choose not to utilize it unless absolutely necessary. This aligns with their more mature character development since the start of Blue Vortex.

Implications for Future Progression of the Narrative

The potential merging of the protagonist with Momoshiki, resulting in him becoming more Otsutsuki-like, poses a significant threat to many characters. This is particularly concerning given the considerable power he has acquired during the timeskip. Furthermore, it could serve as a poignant contrast to Kawaki.

Throughout most of the series, Kawaki has faced the constant danger of becoming a vessel for the Otsutsuki. Now, it appears that Naruto’s son may also share this fate. It would be a cruel twist of fate, considering they had already exchanged lives through Eida’s Omnipotence and may now be exchanging destinies as well.

Concluding Remarks

It is quite reasonable to believe that the protagonist is fusing with Momoshiki, especially when taking into account the evidence presented. However, it should be noted that this is merely a speculation at this point. Nevertheless, if true, it would provide an explanation for his hesitation to use Karma and keep the threat of Momoshiki looming in the background.
