The creator of Elden Ring, who is also the director, is known for developing an incredibly popular fantasy game. However, they have revealed that they are currently focused on perfecting their dream RPG, which may become their next undertaking.
With the highly anticipated release of Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC just around the corner, many fans are curious about what the future holds for FromSoftware. While the DLC is expected to be the only expansion for the game, players will soon bid farewell to the Lands Between.
There is much speculation surrounding FromSoftware’s upcoming project. Will it be Dark Souls 4, Bloodborne 2, or Sekiro: Shadows Die Thrice? Alternatively, it could be a completely original concept, building upon the foundations of their previous franchises.
In a June 15 interview with PC Gamer, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Elden Ring, hinted at his upcoming project. He shared his future plans and expressed that Elden Ring is the beginning of a bigger project in the fantasy RPG genre.
During past interviews about Elden Ring, I mentioned that I am still in the process of creating my dream fantasy RPG,”Miyazaki stated. “Although Elden Ring isn’t exactly what I had in mind, it’s very close. We are making great progress towards achieving my vision.”
“It’s challenging to discuss without revealing any spoilers for my upcoming projects or future games. However, I believe one aspect that may hinder the realization of my ideal is the fact that, while playing, I am already aware of every event that will transpire.”
“I am already well-informed about the current happenings. However, as a player, I would prefer not to have this knowledge and instead have someone else create my perfect fantasy game. That way, I can fully enjoy it purely as a player.”
Miyazaki’s statement affirms that FromSoftware is indeed developing another fantasy RPG. However, given the size of the studio, it has the capability to work on multiple games simultaneously. Therefore, fans of Armored Core need not despair upon hearing his words.
Regardless of whether the upcoming game is Elden Ring 2, Dark Souls 4, or a completely original concept, it is thrilling to imagine that a game as extensive and remarkable as Elden Ring still does not align with Miyazaki’s idea of a perfect RPG. After completing Shadow of the Erdtree, the anticipation for FromSoftware’s next masterpiece will commence.
