X-Men ’97, the sequel to the ’90s animated series, has finally arrived on the small screen, and the reactions are already great.
The X-Men ’97 series didn’t get off to the best start: just a week before its release, its creator Beau DeMayo was fired. And before fans got over it, Marvel launched the first two episodes anyway.
The production promised a resurrection of a program well known in the 90s – it takes its name from that. After the takeover of Fox (which owned the rights to the heroes) by Disney, the colorful mutants of Professor X came out of the dusty closets. And according to the first opinions on the two episodes of X-Men ’97, they were greatly missed by the community of Marvel fans!
The X-Men ’97 series is a hit with Marvel fans from the start
According to the first reactions, the animated series created by Beau DeMayo (The Witcher: The Wolf’s Nightmare) would be the best thing to happen to Marvel since the film Avengers: Infinity War.
It’s really very, very good! I am surprised!

“X-Men ’97 offers the best version of Cyclops outside of the comics. I am so happy.”
X-Men ‘97 is a nostalgic thrill-ride that is absolutely worth the wait. Having just watched the original series, I was hoping it would live up to expectations, but it EXCEEDS them. The characters are even more compelling and the action is fantastic. AH-MAY-ZING. 🤌 #XMen97 pic.twitter.com/oX22Gumvkr

“X-Men ’97 is a whirlwind of nostalgia that was worth the wait. As I finished watching the original, I was hoping that the series would live up to expectations, but it EXCEEDED them. The characters are even more endearing and the action is fantastic.”
From the press side, the criticisms generally go in the same direction. The Hollywood Reporter calls it a “sincere but not pretentious” series, while Variety sees it as “a worthy sequel” to the original.
It should still be remembered that the first episodes of a series are often well received by viewers, and it is rare for a weekly release to get off to a bad start. But if X-Men ’97 manages to stay the course, it could be Marvel’s revival of its superhero stories, after recent box office failures.
And to form your own opinion, you will have to go to Disney+: the first two episodes of X-Men ’97 were released on the big-eared platform on March 20, 2024.
