There’s finally a good Saturday Night Live movie and it’s about SNL being a nightmare

The long-awaited trailer for the Saturday Night Live biopic has finally been released, and it has all the elements to become a modern masterpiece.

The highly anticipated Saturday Night biographical comedy delves into the chaotic and uncertain beginnings of Saturday Night Live in 1975. Under the direction of Jason Reitman, the initial trailer for the upcoming film has been met with overall positive feedback.

The Saturday Night trailer proudly presents a star-studded ensemble, with each member portraying some of the most iconic comedians of the time. Leading the cast is Gabriel LaBelle as Lorne Michaels, the creator of SNL. The movie’s title pays homage to the show’s original name, which was changed to Saturday Night Live in its second season due to another NBC program already holding the name.

The movie takes place during the premiere of Saturday Night, where a group of inexperienced comedians must navigate the challenges of creating a live sketch show for a major network. The night is filled with chaos as they try to prove themselves in the industry.

The casting has received just as much praise as the tone of the first Saturday Night trailer, as seen in the comments from fans.

Both YouTube comments praise the portrayal of Chevy Chase by the actor, with one stating “The Chevy Chase actor is spot on”and the other acknowledging “It’s uncanny how perfect Cory Michael Smith looks as a young Chevy Chase.”

Many people agree that Jason Reitman is one of the top directors in the industry and also a very likable person. As a fan of SNL, I am eagerly anticipating his upcoming project.

The cast of the show consists of the original Not Ready For Primetime Players, with Dylan O’Brien portraying Dan Aykroyd, Lamorne Morris as Garrett Morris, Cory Micheal Smith as Chevy Chase, Ella Hunt as Gilda Radner, Emily Fairn as Laraine Newman, Kim Matula as Jane Curtain, Tommy Dewey as Michael O’Donoghue, and Matt Wood as John Belushi.

In addition to his role in the trailer, Nicholas Braun portrays Jim Henson, whose iconic Muppets were featured in early SNL episodes. Braun will also have a role as Andy Kaufman in the film.

The newly released Saturday Night trailer features the debut of Willem Dafoe as NBC executive David Tebet and J.K. Simmons as Milton Berle. Berle was famously barred from the show in 1979 after serving as a guest host. Finn Wolfhard also makes an appearance in the movie as an unnamed NBC Page.

If the film meets fan expectations, it has the potential to alter the public’s perception of SNL’s success at the box office. Despite numerous failed attempts in the past, SNL has struggled to find success on the big screen.

Despite the presence of a few notable classics such as The Blues Brothers, Wayne’s World, and Coneheads, films like It’s Pat, The Ladies Man, and Blues Brothers 2000 are often found on lists of the worst movies ever created.

The highly anticipated film, Saturday Night, is set to hit theaters on October 11, 2024, coinciding with the 49th anniversary of the inaugural Saturday Night Live broadcast.
