The director Tatsushi Omori, along with actors Sota Fukushi and Marika Matsumoto, attended the press conference for the upcoming film “The Women in the Lakes”in Tokyo on April 16th.
When asked about his impression of Matsumoto, Fukushi commented, “I can sense that she is a very caring person.”He also added, “I believe she has a great relationship with those around her. It would have been intriguing if we had not spoken at all.”However, there was no exchange of words or laughter between us on set, apart from our scripted lines.
Matsumoto’s initial impression of Fukushi was that of a refreshing and slightly intimidating individual, as she had never seen him in that light before. She described him as exuding a unique sexiness. However, she also admitted that she deliberately distanced herself from him and avoided making eye contact because she did not want to get to know him or see his kindness and charm.
Despite it being their first time collaborating, the two went ahead with the filming without exchanging any communication. Surprisingly, they even skipped discussing their roles beforehand. In light of this, Fukushi admitted feeling anxious after the shoot. He shared, “I’m usually quite cheerful and tend to laugh a lot when I’m with others. However, this time I remained quiet. That’s why I was concerned about Matsumoto’s perception of me.”
Matsumoto admitted, “I had strong negative feelings towards him. I remember thinking, ‘I will never cross paths with Fukushi again’.”This confession came after a year and a half had passed since they finished filming and had not seen each other.
At the same time, the premiere of “The Women in the Lakes” is scheduled for May 17th in Japan. The film follows the journey of a detective, Keisuke Hamanaka, as he investigates the murder of a 100-year-old man at a nursing facility near Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. Fukushi stars as Hamanaka, while Matsumoto plays the role of caretaker Kayo Toyota.
