This 5th-Gen Girl Group’s New Living Situation Garners Mixed Reactions: ‘I’d Hate It So Much’

In the closely connected realm of K-Pop, where the path from trainee to celebrity is a meticulously planned climb to fame, living in dorms has always been a fundamental aspect of the culture.

Despite the dorm usually serving as a secondary home for many idols, where they can build strong relationships with their group members and chase their aspirations, one girl group is defying this tradition, causing both admiration and controversy among the K-Pop fanbase.

TripleS, a popular K-pop girl group on the rise, has revealed their decision to break away from the conventional dorm-living setup and embrace a more autonomous lifestyle when not actively promoting.

The recent revelation has sparked discussions among fans, industry insiders, and netizens alike. It is a common trend for K-Pop idols to live in assigned dorms from their trainee days until a few years after their debut.

This shared living arrangement has various advantages, such as promoting a sense of camaraderie among residents, generating material for reality shows that are based in dorms, and reducing the chances of scandals or conflicts through regular supervision by managers or other residents.

Nevertheless, TripleS has chosen a distinct approach.

During times without promotions, the group members are given the liberty to reside on their own, either in their own homes or in individual living spaces.

This deviation from the usual reflects the group’s pursuit of individual independence and tackles the logistical difficulties of overseeing a sizable group of members in a shared space.

In a statement issued by the organization, they recognized the challenges of living together as a community, particularly with a large group of 24 individuals.

“The fans would be a little surprised to hear, but it’s actually harder than you think to have 24 girls live in a house and promote.

Although it’s so fun and enjoyable to get together and put our strength together to promote, there are some realistic problems that come with it. So during our non-promotional period, we are allowed to freely live where we want to.

Of course we all live together in dorms during promotional periods, but for non-promotional periods, we have discussed it with our company to agree on this.

For now, the ones who live outside are Hyerin, Yooyeon, Sohyun, and Jiwoo. But we have more promotions than expected, so we have to go back at forth a lot.

Also, we expect that more of us will move out in the future, so we will continue to share this with the fans.”

Although TripleS seems satisfied with their unorthodox living situation, the responses from netizens have been varied.

While some acknowledge the practicality of the decision due to the group’s size, others voice disappointment or disapproval, pointing out the deviation from the beloved dorm-life concept commonly seen in K-Pop.

The timing and manner of the announcement has sparked questions and discomfort among some fans, as it involved the public disclosure of the group’s living arrangements.
