Despite initially earning only $360 as a K-pop star, this idol made the decision to leave the industry and pursue a more ordinary life as a café owner. Her current monthly income has drastically increased to over $4,000.
Why Noeul Decided to Become Café Owner
On April 29, Noeul, formerly known as a member of Rainbow, made an appearance as a guest on the YouTube channel, “Human Story.”During the interview, she opened up about her current life after choosing to live a more ordinary and private lifestyle.
The title of the recent video sparked interest as it introduced a 15-year idol who left the entertainment industry in her 30s to open a café, which ultimately achieved great success.
After selecting the documentary-style interview, it was unveiled that Noeul was the guest, discussing her current lifestyle following the disbandment of Rainbow in 2016.
On this day, Noeul made her introduction:
“I am Noeul, a former member of Rainbow. I am currently living a normal life as an owner of a cafe.”
In 2019, Rainbow initially reunited, but their promotional plans ultimately fell through, causing the members to shift their focus to their individual careers.
Despite her initial attempt to break into the acting industry, Noeul was unsuccessful. This led her to instead open a business in mid-May 2023.
She provided an explanation:
“After group activities, I tried acting, but I kept failing at auditions, and I reached a breaking point while doing small musicals. I started to reflect on whether I really liked this enough to continue. There was a desire for a stable life.”
After running her café for approximately one year, where a variety of desserts are sold, Noeul discloses her café’s sales:
“Even in the off-season, it comes to a little less than $4,000 a month.”
Noeul’s Struggle During Rainbow Activities
In 2009, when Rainbow made their debut, their songs “A”and “Kiss”were their most commercially successful tracks, leading to a significant amount of success both domestically and internationally.
However, Noeul admitted that she was unable to achieve financial success during her time as an idol. In a previous interview, she stated:
“When I was working part-time and making a living, I didn’t even have 500,000 won ($360) in my account when I was out of work, but I survived that way. I thought my life was really miserable.”
The conversation continued as she spoke:
“The thing I did the most to somehow make a living was working at cafes, pubs, bars, and even at meat restaurants. A lot of celebrities came (to the meat restaurant). I couldn’t go anywhere, but one of the people who came at that time was Seo Jang Hoon. Once he heard about my situation, he gave me 1 million won ($722) as pocket money.”
