This isn’t complicated – Bleach fans laugh at Naruto fandom claiming Uryu as a deuteragonist in Sasuke comparison

Bleach and Naruto fans have a longstanding history of debating various topics surrounding their favorite series. Recently, some Naruto fans have argued that Sasuke Uchiha is a better-written deuteragonist than Uryu Ishida. This statement has sparked diverse reactions from fans of Tite Kubo’s work, with many pointing out that Uryu was not a deuteragonist and therefore the comparison is not entirely fair.

Despite often being compared to Sasuke from Naruto and given the nickname “Bleach’s Sasuke,”Uryu’s stoic nature, complex friendship with the protagonist, and similar appearance are the main reasons for this comparison. However, if we examine their roles within the story, it becomes clear that Uryu and Sasuke serve very different purposes.

Please note that this article contains spoilers for the series.

Analyzing Uryu Ishida’s Role Compared to Sasuke Uchiha in Naruto and Bleach Fan Discussions

According to an individual on X, Sasuke Uchiha is a significantly better-written deuteragonist than Uryu Ishida, causing fans of the latter and his series to argue that he was never intended to have that role. This argument holds merit, as Sasuke does play a crucial role as a secondary protagonist in his series, while Uryu is somewhat overshadowed in comparison.

The roots of this comparison can be traced back to the 2000s, when both series were at their peak. This is due to the striking resemblance and similar traits shared by Sasuke and Uryu. Additionally, their voices, both provided by Noriaki Sugiyama, further fuel the comparisons.

Despite both being secondary characters, Uryu Ishida and Sasuke have different roles in their respective stories. While Uryu serves as an ally to Ichigo Kurosaki, Sasuke has his own journey and individual arc throughout the manga. This significant contrast is what sets the Uchiha apart as a well-developed deuteragonist, while the Quincy has a distinct role to fulfill within his own series.

Reactions From Social Media

Additionally, it is important to note that Bleach does not have a deuteragonist. Ichigo clearly holds the role of the main character, receiving the most attention and screen time. While some have argued for Rukia Kuchiki as the deuteragonist, her importance and involvement in the plot decreases as the story progresses through various arcs.

Contrarily, Sasuke Uchiha hails from one of the most talented clans in the Hidden Leaf Village, all of whom were tragically murdered by his brother, Itachi. This traumatic event fueled Sasuke’s determination to seek revenge. As the manga nears its conclusion, Sasuke’s journey garners just as much attention and significance as Naruto’s own tale.

“Why do people think uryu is a deuteragonist when all he is just a major side character. Renji and rukia would be the actual deuteragonist,”someone said.

“Uryu is more like Piccolo and Grimjow is more like Vegeta. And if we’re compared him with Sasuke then Grimjow beats Sasuke by miles,”another person said.

“The anime community when they see a character that is friend of the MC, dark hair, cool headed: ‘oh look a Sasuke copy, must be the deuteragonist,’”someone else said.

In Bleach, Uryu does not fit the role of a deuteragonist, who is typically seen as a co-protagonist with their own story. However, in Naruto, Sasuke fits this role perfectly.
