Thousands of Mario Kart Racing Karts Recalled Due to Dangerous Faulty Pedal

A large number of Mario Kart racing karts are being withdrawn from the market as a result of a problem with the acceleration pedal becoming clogged with debris, resulting in users losing control of their speed.

Jakks Pacific, a company based in California, has been compelled to withdraw 17,500 units of their Mario Kart 24V Ride-On Racer Cars because their acceleration pedal poses a risk to riders.

On April 25, 2024, the United States Consumer Product and Safety Commission announced the recall of the company’s stock. The reason for the recall was due to reports of debris getting jammed in the acceleration pedal of the $400 karts, causing users to lose control of their vehicles.

According to the recall report, the company has documented 65 incidents of pedals becoming clogged with debris and sticking. Out of these incidents, 15 vehicles crashed into permanent structures, resulting in one minor injury of a chafed hand.

In addition, the United States Consumer Product and Safety Commission advised that users discontinue use of the Mario Kart product immediately and reach out to Jakks Pacific for a complimentary repair kit. This kit will include a replacement pedal and installation instructions.

Despite the concerns raised by many on social media regarding the potential harm of the product, there were also those who took the opportunity to playfully mock Nintendo for their creation of a “realistic”kart that, much like its video game counterpart, is difficult to slow down.

One user on the X platform (previously known as Twitter) stated, “So basically, they wanted it to be like Mario Kart, right?” Another user chimed in, “The recall of the Mario Kart is due to it being too incredible and cool.”

As of this moment, Nintendo has not issued any official statements regarding the recall. Nevertheless, we will continue to provide updates if the makers of Mario Kart choose to address the situation.
