Thunderbolt Fantasy season 4 trailer reveals October 2024 release date and more

On Friday, August 2, 2024, Nitroplus revealed that the highly anticipated fourth season of Thunderbolt Fantasy will premiere on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 10PM on Tokyo MX, Japan’s leading broadcast network. A new promo video, approximately 2 minutes long, and a key visual featuring the beloved characters were also unveiled alongside the announcement.

The fourth season of Thunderbolt Fantasy will feature a number of new cast members, with their respective characters revealed through both their appearances in the show and concept art. Additionally, it has been confirmed that this season is the first of two projects that make up the sequel, with the second being a movie titled Thunderbolt Fantasy: Toriken Yuki Saishusho, set to release in 2025 as the final chapter of the series.

Thunderbolt Fantasy to Release Fourth Season in September 2025

Although Thunderbolt Fantasy season 4 is set to officially premiere in October, an early showing of the first two episodes will take place at United Cinemas Toyosu on Saturday, September 7, 2024. The series will also welcome two new cast members, Fairouz Ai as Haogyoku and Shogo Batori as Kamusho. Ai is most likely recognized for her roles as Power in Chainsaw Man and Kikoru Shinomiya in Kaiju No. 8, while Batori is best known for portraying Kazuma Shouji in Cardfight!! Vanguard.

Thunderbolt Fantasy season 4 is the most recent installment in the puppet-show action franchise, which originally premiered in Japan in July 2016. This was then followed by the release of Thunderbolt Fantasy: The Sword of Life and Death film in December 2017. The second season, titled Fantasy Sword Seekers, made its debut in Japan in October 2018. All three projects were streamed by Crunchyroll.

The franchise’s latest venture, Thunderbolt Fantasy – Seiyu Genka film, was released in Japan in October 2019. In December 2019, Crunchyroll started streaming the project under the title Thunderbolt Fantasy: Bewitching Melody of the West. The third season of the franchise, titled Thunderbolt Fantasy: Toriken Yuki 3, premiered in Japan in April 2021. This third season is also available for streaming on Crunchyroll.

Gen Urobuchi was recognized as the creator of the first season, as he both wrote the scripts and served as the chief supervisor. The character designs were credited to Nitroplus, and Good Smile Company was acknowledged as the “modeling adviser.”PILI Multimedia Inc. was responsible for producing the series, as they are highly regarded for their hand puppet drama productions in Taiwan. Hiroyuki Sawano composed the music, with Yoshikazu Iwanami serving as the sound director.

The story is set in an Eastern fantasy world and begins by introducing Dan Fei and her brother, who are protectors of the Tian Xing Jian sword. They are being chased by the Xuan Gui Zong clan, who are led by the villainous Mie Tian Hai and are determined to acquire the sword. While her brother is defeated, Fei manages to escape with the sword’s crossguard and seeks help from the wandering swordsman Shang Bu Huan and the mysterious Lin Xue Ya. Together, they protect Fei from her relentless pursuers.
