Despite almost not debuting in the group, Girls’ Generation member Tiffany shared that she was able to secure her spot thanks to something that intervened.
During the airing of the latest episode of MBC’s “Radio Star”on May 15, 2024, Tiffany was featured as a guest. Throughout the show, she discussed her flourishing acting career, the treatment she received from her previous agency, SM Entertainment, and her experiences as an idol in the past.
During the reveal, she disclosed that she had almost not debuted with Girls’ Generation.
During their training and preparation for debut, Girls’ Generation initially had 12 members in their line-up. However, this line-up was never set in stone and underwent several revisions before the girl group finally debuted with nine members: Sunny, Yuri, Sooyoung, Seohyun, Taeyeon, Yuri, Hyoyeon, Jessica, and Tiffany.
Despite this, it was later revealed that Tiffany’s debut almost did not happen. When she appeared on the show, she had one of the shortest training times compared to the other members. As preparations intensified, a staff member expressed doubts about her debut and asked if she was prepared to leave the group.
Tiffany was saved by SM Entertainment’s founder, Lee Soo Man, who believed in her potential. He insisted that Tiffany must debut as a member of the group, as her captivating smile on camera was one of the group’s greatest strengths. According to Lee Soo Man, her smile radiated positive energy.
Tiffany remembered that upon her debut, many fans would credit her for their newfound love for Girls’ Generation. This was often attributed to her radiant smile in the group’s debut music video, “Into the New World.”
Just before Girls’ Generation’s debut, teacher Lee Soo-man said, “Tiffany should never be left out. He added it saying, “The smile that comes on screen is the best advantage and energy.” ㅠㅠㅠㅠ And then the short hair + eye smile Fanny of Into the New World was born 🥹❤️ pic.twitter.com/3TqWSB15sL
