Tragic Incident: Kenyan University Student Murdered Outside Nightclub
A shocking incident occurred in Kenya when a university student was reportedly stabbed and killed by a group outside a nightclub.
On Sunday, November 17, the victim, known on TikTok as ‘Billionaire Evance Akoko’, suffered a brutal attack at the hands of motorcycle taxi drivers. His real name was Sospeter Onyango Osungo.
Details of the Night
On the night of the tragedy, Akoko was enjoying an outing with friends in Kibera, a neighborhood in Nairobi. After offering to buy drinks for his group, they decided to continue their night at a different venue.
At this new location, tension quickly escalated with local bodaboda taxi operators—motorcyclists who provide an essential form of transport in Kenya, often referred to for their ability to navigate congested areas efficiently.
Allegations and Attack
According to eyewitness accounts, Akoko allegedly brandished firearms while confronting the bodaboda group. This perceived threat incited a violent response, leading to a horrific attack where he was stabbed multiple times.
Sadly, Akoko did not survive the assault, dying at the scene before being transferred to the morgue for forensic examination. His companions also suffered serious injuries, but one of Akoko’s friends managed to escape and inform the authorities about the incident. As part of the investigation, their vehicle has been impounded as evidence.
Police Investigation and Response
Nairobi Police Commander Adamson Bungei announced that a thorough investigation is underway. He emphasized the police department’s stance against mob justice, condemning it as a criminal act, and assured that a dedicated team is working to identify and apprehend those responsible.
About Akoko
At only 23 years old, Akoko was in his final year studying architecture at Kirinyaga University. He was known for sharing glimpses of his affluent lifestyle on social media, often showcasing extravagant outings and luxury cars.
Context of Violence
This tragic event echoes a broader trend of violence in Kenya, reminiscent of the recent murder of Instagram model Cindy Elizabeth Hernandez Perez in Monterrey, Mexico. Perez was found dead in her home after failing to pick up her child from daycare on October 4, highlighting a concerning pattern of violence against individuals in public life.
As the investigation into Akoko’s murder continues, Kenyan authorities are diligently seeking information regarding the bodaboda drivers involved in this heinous crime.
