TikTok Dad Creates Controversy by Dancing with Daughter to Diddy’s ‘I’ll Be Missing You’

A well-known father-daughter duo on TikTok recently encountered criticism after incorporating Diddy’s cover song in a dance video.

Cole LaBrant, who has amassed 23 million followers on TikTok, ignited a controversy after sharing a video of himself dancing to Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ cover of ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ alongside his 11-year-old stepdaughter.

LaBrant posted the video on September 20, aiming to join the viral ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ trend that emerged in August 2023.

However, the video drew negative reactions from netizens, leading the content creator to remove the post from both TikTok and Instagram.

While some users labeled the video as “gross,” LaBrant and his stepdaughter have gained popularity before for dancing to other trending songs like ‘Pour Me A Drink’ by Post Malone and ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ by Shaboozey.

Notably, his stepdaughter frequently choreographs their dances, earning compliments for her impressive moves. Yet, their ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ dance faced scrutiny, especially in light of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ recent arrest for sex trafficking and racketeering on September 16, which put viewers in a contentious position about its appropriateness.

“That was the cringiest video I’ve seen in a while,” remarked one viewer. Another added, “They’re literally exploiting their child for views and influencing, so what do you expect?”

Despite the backlash, LaBrant and his stepdaughter received some support from their extensive fanbase.

“Leave that man alone, he’s just dancing with his daughter,” commented one supporter. “This is still a great song. People need to separate the art from the artist,” another user chimed in.

Since their video went viral and was subsequently deleted, LaBrant and his stepdaughter have not posted any new content on TikTok.

In another incident, a popular TikTok family faced criticism this September for allegedly leaving their toddlers unsupervised in their room while on a cruise.

The TikTok couple, Matt and Abby Howard, asserted that they used FaceTime to monitor their 12-month-old toddlers but faced backlash for stepping out to eat dinner at a restaurant on the ship.
