TikToker apologizes after threatening to use motorcyclists as “speed bumps”

A TikTok user has recently apologized after receiving backlash for stating her desire to use motorcyclists as “speed bumps”while driving on the road.

In May 2024, ‘Hazel’, a user on TikTok, shared a video where she expressed her disapproval towards motorcyclists, claiming that they disregard driving regulations and put other drivers at risk.

Hazel started mimicking signs she had seen on the road, cautioning to be mindful of motorcycles. “Can you recall the last time you saw a motorcycle follow traffic rules?”she asked. “I doubt it. That’s what I figured.”

“We should keep an eye out for them, just as they should keep an eye out for us. After all, they are the ones maneuvering through traffic and attempting to overtake me on the shoulder. Motorcyclists should also take caution around me, as I may begin to install speed bumps.”

Hazel received a significant amount of backlash from viewers due to her video, resulting in her decision to remove it. Other users responded by stitching their comments onto the video, reminding drivers to be vigilant and highlighting the fact that motorcyclist deaths are primarily caused by vehicles.

Haffner Law states that head-on collisions with cars or trucks are the leading cause of deaths for motorcyclists on the road. This has been reiterated by other commenters online.

Despite a considerable amount of discussion on both sides, drivers argued that it is challenging to spot motorcyclists and asserted that, based on their personal encounters, numerous riders do not adhere to traffic regulations.

“According to one viewer, her frustration seemed to be directed towards individuals who advise others to be cautious of motorcycles. She believed it was difficult to constantly watch for reckless drivers who may suddenly appear out of nowhere.”

“Another individual voiced their concern about the lack of adherence to stop signs by motorcyclists in our area. They expressed the danger it poses as they often disregard the signs and continue through them. While they understand the importance of being cautious, it is becoming increasingly difficult for them to do so.”

Shortly after, Hazel posted a video of herself apologizing and explaining that a recent encounter while driving had caused her to feel agitated towards motorcyclists.

“I apologize for using such strong language in my video yesterday,”she stated. “At the moment, I was not aware of the impact those words would have. I was simply feeling frustrated.”

“While interacting with another driver in traffic, I noticed that they were not using their directionals. Their speeding and weaving between lanes frustrated me, and I apologize if my reaction appeared aggressive.”

Despite issuing an apology, numerous viewers remain unconvinced by her explanation. One user even went as far as writing: “Your words, Hazel, will never be forgotten. You are no longer supported.”

“Another person expressed, “As a wife to a husband who rides… I hope you have the day that you deserve.”

“While Hazel, we understand your mistake, it’s important to remember that actions have consequences. Threatening human lives is never acceptable,”another person added.

Hazel is the most recent TikToker to receive criticism for her content, following in the footsteps of fellow influencer Haylee Baylee who faced backlash from viewers for her “insensitive”video at the 2024 Met Gala.
