TikToker hospitalized after attempting viral cucumber salad trend

A TikToker recently shared a warning about the popular viral trend of making cucumber salad, revealing that after following the recipe, she ended up in the hospital.

The popularity of cucumber salads on TikTok can be attributed to Logan Moffitt, also known as the ‘Cucumber Guy,’ whose recipe videos have gone viral. However, it is important to handle a mandolin carefully when following his techniques for slicing the vegetable into thin pieces, as improper use can result in injuries.

Australian TikToker Bec “bechardgrave”Hardgrave had a hard lesson when she turned to the app to document her attempt at making a trendy cucumber salad, which ultimately resulted in a trip to the emergency room.

In the brief video, she is skillfully using a mandolin to slice a cucumber. The scene then transitions to her in the hospital, with a bandage carefully wrapped around her injured hand.

“I refrained from posting the clip on TikTok as I was concerned it may get flagged. However, shortly after, I accidentally cut my hand on the mandolin. To prevent others from making the same mistake, I want to share a warning with all of you,”she informed her viewers.

“Bec showed her bandaged hand and explained that she had recently purchased a mandolin from K-Mart. However, she hadn’t fully opened the box and discovered that it came with a guard to prevent accidents like the one she had experienced.”

The wound was too wide to be stitched, so the doctor decided not to use any stitches. He mentioned that if I had brought the removed skin with me, he could have reattached it to my hand. As a result, I just have to wait for it to heal.

She concluded her video by warning, “Just don’t use a mandolin,”but her partner quickly interjected, “Just remember to use the guard.”Bec then pointed out that Logan had failed to use the guard in his own videos.

After watching the mandolin video, TikTok users expressed their thoughts in the comments section. One user shared, “As someone who once accidentally cut themselves when the guard fell off, I feel anxious every time I see a mandolin.”

A different individual added: “Having worked in the hospitality industry, I have witnessed numerous instances of people cutting their hand while using a mandolin to slice tomatoes. It is imperative to always use the guard to prevent accidents. I am constantly worried about the safety of others.”
