TikToker Shocks Court by Creating Homemade Explosives for Social Media Fame

A 43-year-old man from Quebec left a judge stunned after confessing to creating homemade explosives in a bid to gain popularity on social media platforms like TikTok and Facebook.

In the quest for virality, netizens often engage in bizarre acts, from streamers leaping over moving cars to taking part in hazardous trends such as ‘the milk crate challenge.’ It’s not unusual for individuals to push boundaries for more views.

However, one man’s actions took this to a dangerous level. Dominic Pelletier, aged 43, was arrested in February 2024 after local law enforcement became aware of his explosive videos on social media.

Authorities conducted a raid on Pelletier’s residence, uncovering a range of homemade explosive devices.

His videos depicted Pelletier creating explosions and detonating various objects.

During the raid, police seized “pipe bombs, propane tanks, burned aerosol cans, as well as ammunition,” according to CBC News.

Pelletier pleaded guilty and explained that he was unemployed during the videotaping and hoped to achieve fame and fortune through viral content.

Judge Steve Magnan expressed disbelief at Pelletier’s behavior, questioning his age and indicating that such actions would be unthinkable even for an 18-year-old, “but at 43…” he said, trailing off.

Pelletier acknowledged his recklessness when informed that his actions posed significant risks to himself and those around him.

The prosecution and defense have recommended that Pelletier complete a one-year community service sentence, which is currently pending a decision as the case is under advisement.

This incident highlights the troubling trend of TikTok creators facing legal issues due to their content. Recently, another prankster found himself in legal trouble after he filmed himself pouring buckets of liquid — including waste — onto train passengers in Brussels in July 2024.
