A Timothée Chalamet impersonator found himself in handcuffs during a competition designed to showcase the best lookalike of the star. This doppelgänger, who has since described the incident as “completely surreal,” shared his experience post-arrest.
On Sunday, October 27, Anthony Po, a popular YouTuber, organized a lookalike contest featuring actor Timothée Chalamet in lower Manhattan, New York City.
With a crowd of around 2,000 spectators, Washington Square Park buzzed with excitement as fans gathered to find the closest match to the ‘Wonka’ star. In a surprising turn of events, Chalamet himself made an appearance to observe his lookalikes.
The large gathering, however, caught the attention of the NYPD, leading to a significant fine and the arrest of one participant.

The individual arrested, identified as Matt Mannix, arrived at the event expecting an amusing time. Instead, he found himself handcuffed and facing multiple charges, including failure to comply with park guidelines, disorderly conduct, and trespassing.
In an interview with Teen Vogue, Mannix recounted his ordeal, mentioning that an officer unexpectedly put hands on him. He described the officer pushing him several times and binding his wrists for “approximately three minutes.”
“During this entire process, I kept asking, ‘Am I being detained? Am I being detained? Am I being detained?’ and he just wouldn’t respond,” Mannix articulated. “Instead, he repeatedly asked me, ‘Are you leaving? Are you leaving?’ It was unclear how he expected me to depart while still holding onto my wrists.”

Mannix characterized the entire experience as “absolutely wild,” noting that he is still coping with a whirlwind of emotions following the incident.
Despite feeling “shaken up,” the Timothée Chalamet impersonator revealed he had been approached by a representative from HBO regarding a potential audition.
As for Anthony Po, the contest’s organizer, he was fined $500 for conducting an unauthorized event.
This was not Po’s first notable event in the city; earlier in the year, he gained viral fame by consuming a jar of cheeseballs in front of a large audience, subsequently earning the title of ‘Cheeseballman’ while revealing his identity behind the orange mask.
