In Shadow of the Erdtree, if you choose to go to the right optional area, you will encounter three Jagged Peak Drakes.

To access the Dragon’s Pit section, located east of the DLC’s starting area, you must first defeat any enemies in your way. The Dragon’s Pit is situated on a cliff that overlooks the Scorched Ruins in the Gravesite Plains.

You will have to travel north from the starting location, cross over the expansive bridge leading to Castle Ensis, and then take the path on the right side of the Castle Front Site of Grace.

After successfully navigating the treacherous Dragon’s Pit and defeating the formidable Ancient Dragon Man boss, you will reach the Dragon’s Pit Terminus, also known as the Site of Grace. The initial Drake will be in a slumber and will not retaliate unless provoked by the first strike.

Once you have defeated this one, you may proceed to the peak’s summit. On your journey, you will come across a clash between two more Drakes. This occurs shortly after passing the Foot of the Jagged Peak Site of Grace, just before reaching the location where you will battle Ancient Dragon Senessax.

Although the Jagged Peak Drake may seem large, it is actually relatively easy to defeat. You just need to be mindful of its attacks.

  • Tail Sweep: the dragon will wind up and unleash a swipe with its tail
  • Heavy Stomps: the Jagged Peak Drake will hover in the air, briefly, before slamming down on you
  • Fire Breaths: a simple fire-breathing attack that will cover the area directly in front of the dragon
  • Leaping Fire Breath: the dragon will fly backward as it blasts the area in front of it with fire
  • Flying Fire Breath: the Jagged Peak Drake will fly in a straight line while breathing fire directly in front of and below it
  • Lightning Roar: summons lightning in various spots around it that will strike with incredible power

Magic User Tips

It should be noted that those who possess magical abilities will have an advantage in this battle as the dragon will constantly create distance between you and itself.

This allows for the use of spell-casting to inflict damage from a safe distance without the need to approach the target. For those utilizing this technique, it is advised to keep a distance, evade its attacks, and continuously cast spells until it is defeated.

Tips for Melee Users

Nevertheless, melee users will enjoy their own advantages. The key is to remain patient when battling these huge creatures.

A crucial aspect of a melee build is utilizing your mount, Torrent, and staying in constant motion. Riding Torrent serves a dual purpose for this strategy:

  1. This feature makes it easier to close the distance between you and the Jagged Peak Drake.
  2. You are able to escape from the dragon by running away when you notice it preparing to launch its attacks.

The objective is to remain on Torrent and maneuver around the arena, attacking the Jagged Peak Drake a few times before quickly retreating to avoid its counterattacks.

It is important to avoid becoming too greedy and attempting extra hits, as the Jagged Peak Drake may exploit this and land more attacks. Just a few hits can completely deplete your health.

Bringing your Mimic Tear can also serve as a way to catch the Jagged Peak Drake’s attention, giving you the opportunity to navigate the battlefield without the fear of getting attacked. Although the Mimic Tear may not inflict significant damage, it can effectively divert the boss’s focus.

In rare cases, you will immobilize the dragon, giving you and the Mimic Tear the chance to attack and inflict significant damage before it regains consciousness.

When engaging with two Jagged Peak Drakes simultaneously, allow them to battle each other for as long as possible. This will result in significant damage being dealt between them and ultimately lead to one defeating the other.

Be wary of AoE attacks such as Lightning Roar, as they have the ability to strike you even if you are not their intended target.

After this, use your Mimic Tear and follow the steps mentioned above to complete the task. Upon defeating the Jagged Peak Drake, you will be rewarded with 120,000 Runes, 1x Dragon Heart, and 1x Dragonscale Flesh.

Among the many new additions for Shadow of the Erdtree, the Jagged Peak Drake is just one of the formidable bosses players will encounter. It is important to familiarize yourself with strategies for defeating other challenging foes such as the Divine Beast Dancing Lion, Rellana Twin Moon Knight, Messmer the Impaler, and Bayle the Dread.
