Tips to Minimize Aliasing in Metaphor ReFantazio for PC Users

Metaphor ReFantazio, the newest JRPG crafted by ATLUS and Studio Zero, utilizes their custom game engine. While the artistic direction is commendable, the technical execution leaves much to be desired. Numerous issues plague the game, including low-resolution textures, inconsistent frame rates, and various bugs, particularly in the PC edition. One glaring problem is the total absence of any anti-aliasing options, leading to persistent aliasing and shimmering effects. Below is a guide on how to mitigate aliasing in Metaphor ReFantazio.

Mitigating Aliasing in Metaphor ReFantazio

Currently, the most effective way to reduce aliasing in Metaphor ReFantazio is to boost the rendering scale to 200%. This adjustment will nearly eradicate aliasing and shimmering artifacts, albeit with a performance trade-off. Alternatively, setting the scale to 150% can still significantly lessen aliasing without as much impact on performance.

We also explored using DSR, but the performance wasn’t notably improved. Additionally, trying FXAA via the NVIDIA control panel yielded unsatisfactory results, making render scale adjustments the preferred method. While performance suffers, it’s not nearly as detrimental as initially feared, and the visual clarity at 200% is quite impressive.

Players may consider disabling the Camera Shake feature within the game settings to further reduce observed aliasing, as this stops the camera from continually shifting, although this is more of a temporary relief for static gameplay.

It’s our sincere hope that the developers introduce a proper anti-aliasing remedy, as the current situation is quite disruptive, and not everyone can enhance the render scale to higher settings. Fortunately, given that this title features turn-based combat, lower frame rates are less of an issue overall.
