Creator of Bleach, Tite Kubo, has taken an active role in the production of the TYBW anime, notably introducing new characters within an additional anime scene.
The Bleach anime is currently showcasing TYBW Part 3, where intense battles against Yhwach and the Sternritters are unfolding. Following the death of the Soul King, which posed a serious risk to the stability of the three realms, Jushiro Ukitake made a courageous move to temporarily stabilize the Soul Society for ten minutes.
Episode 29 of the anime included scenes not found in the manga. While the original manga offered only a brief look into Ukitake’s backstory, the anime now reveals that he was born with a debilitating health condition, suffering from a grave lung illness since the age of three.
In a desperate attempt to save their son, Ukitake’s parents prayed to Mimihagi, the Soul King’s right arm, requesting to take his affliction away. Mimihagi granted this plea, restoring Ukitake’s health completely. He eventually joined Gotei 13 and rose to the rank of Squad Captain.

A Twitter/X fan account highlighted that, according to the TYBW anime team, Masashi Kudo was responsible for designing the delinquent character and Grandmother Oyone in Rukongai, while Kubo-sensei crafted the designs for Ukitake’s siblings.
In one of the scenes, the young Ukitake is seen witnessing an elderly woman being harassed by a man. Initially, it seems as though he is coming to her aid, yet his true intent was to help the man because Grandmother Oyone possessed the ability to overpower anyone who challenged her. Kudo, widely recognized for his work on Bleach, was behind the creative design of this grandmother character.
Additionally, we are introduced to Ukitake’s siblings; he has two sisters and five brothers, whom he took care of on his own. Tite Kubo’s involvement in the anime extends to creating original designs that enhance Ukitake’s rich backstory.
