With the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine release on the horizon, attention is once again focused on the first two films. Actor TJ Miller has found himself in the midst of another controversy due to comments made about co-star Ryan Reynolds.
During his appearance on the podcast Help! with Natalie Cuomo, Miller, who played Wade’s best friend Weasel in the first two Deadpool films, was asked about his career.
During his conversation about his involvement with Transformers and Deadpool, Miller appeared to suggest that Reynolds was not well-known prior to his portrayal of the iconic character, and that the film’s success may have influenced his demeanor.

“According to Miller, the transition from Deadpool 1 to Deadpool 2 was marked by a significant change in the level of fame and the bizarre events that followed. Initially, Ryan Reynolds was not widely recognized, although he had appeared in several films that were unsuccessful or underperformed at the box office.”
Undoubtedly, the assertions have sparked a fervent reaction from supporters of both Deadpool and Reynolds, as numerous individuals have taken to social media to highlight the absurdity of the statements.
“According to one X/Twitter user quoted, Ryan Reynolds was already a well-known actor prior to his role in Deadpool. Some of his previous successful projects include Two Guys and a Girl (TV), Just Friends, The Croods, and The Proposal.”
Another person commented, “TJ Miller is incredibly unlikable. I’ve even seen people who would rather have a limb amputated than defend Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 3.”
One person, referencing Miller’s notorious death scene in which his character is incinerated in a lengthy and dramatic sequence, stated that he will forever be remembered as the person who angered Michael Bay enough to have five different shots of his demise in TF4.
Prior to his breakout role in 2016’s Deadpool, Reynolds had already established himself as a successful actor (albeit not a particularly prolific one) with his beginnings in Canada. He had gained recognition for his performances in smaller movies such as National Lampoon’s Van Wilder, Waiting, and The Amityville Horror.
Despite having various roles in his career, for a large portion of his fan base he is best known as either the quick-witted Hannibal King in Blade Trinity or the lovable Berg in the sitcom Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place. However, he is perhaps most notorious for his appearance in the poorly-received Green Lantern film in 2011.
Why isn’t TJ Miller reprising his role in Deadpool 3?
Despite being a prominent figure in the first two Deadpool films, Miller is absent from Deadpool & Wolverine. Although the exact explanation is unknown, the actor had been embroiled in controversy prior to the release of Deadpool 2.
The first incident that sparked controversy was a sexual assault allegation in 2017, which he strongly refuted. This accusation was made towards the end of filming for Deadpool 2, and although Miller was not removed from the project, he did withdraw from the sequel to How To Train Your Dragon.
In the following year, Miller was arrested for allegedly making a fake bomb threat at a New York Amtrak station. However, the charges were later dropped. In a subsequent statement, Miller stated that the incident was a result of a manic episode.
During an appearance on The Adam Carolla Show in 2022, he alleged that Ryan Reynolds held animosity towards him and referred to him as “an insecure dude.”He also stated that he would not collaborate with Reynolds in the future. Miller further revealed that Reynolds had been unkind to him on set, purposely asking for more takes in order to belittle his character.
Following his appearance on the Adam Carolla Show, Miller revealed that he and Reynolds had reconciled, attributing the incident to a misunderstanding. Subsequently, Miller has gone on to star in the Netflix series F is for Family and has also released a series of stand-up specials on his YouTube channel.
