Todoroki Family’s Potential Tragedy in My Hero Academia

Todoroki Family’s Potential Tragedy in My Hero Academia

The conclusion of the final war was signified by the release of My Hero Academia chapter 423, followed by the heroes’ return to their everyday routines in the subsequent chapter (424). This indicated that the series’ greatest disaster had finally come to an end.

However, the series has not yet confirmed which heroes survived, apart from those who were featured in chapter 424. Given that Bakugo and All Might both survived despite suffering serious injuries in their fight against All for One, it is likely that there will not be significant casualties among the Pro Heroes.

Despite the speculation of fans, the series may have already hinted at the downfall of a beloved hero. Endeavor, who many believe deserved to meet his end, was prominently featured in an official illustration of the Todoroki family.

Enji Todoroki, known by his hero name Endeavor, took over as Japan’s top hero after All Might was no longer able to continue his heroic career. His quirk, Hellflame, grants him the ability to control and generate scorching hot flames. He is also the father of Shoto Todoroki, a main character in the series.

Despite his dedication to becoming a hero, the beginning of Endeavor’s career was difficult. At the time, All Might held the title of number 1 hero, making it seemingly impossible for Enji to surpass him. Faced with this realization, Endeavor eventually made the decision to pass on the responsibility of surpassing All Might to future generations.

Rei Himura and Endeavor were married despite their completely opposite quirks – Frost and Endeavor’s optimistic outlook on the future only grew with their union. Their first child, Toya Todoroki, did not inherit both of his parents’ quirks, but instead developed the ability to produce flames that were even stronger than his father’s.

Despite the immense power of Toya’s quirk, it began to harm his own body. In order to protect his son’s life, Endeavor ceased his intense training regimen. Following Toya’s birth, Fuyumi inherited her mother’s quirk, and their third child Natsuo also showed signs of the same ability. As a result, Endeavor and Rei grew increasingly frustrated, with Rei struggling to conceive due to the strain on her body.

Ultimately, Shoto was born with both of his parents’ quirks, causing Toya to feel isolated and upset. In response, he began training alone and was caught in a fire during this time. However, due to the overwhelming emotions of the Todoroki family, they did not search for him and presumed him to be deceased.

After realizing that his family did not even bother searching for him, Toya was still alive and decided to give up his old identity and become Dabi. His sole purpose was to make his father suffer, just as he had suffered at his hands.

In chapter 388 of My Hero Academia, Todoroki successfully defeated Dabi in the final war. However, the villain returned with a newly awakened Ice quirk as he neared death. His family members all stood before him, expressing remorse for their neglect and pleading for him to cease his actions. The chapter concluded with a special illustration that read:

“Reunited with his mother and siblings, what lies beyond his (Dabi’s) gaze..”

Despite Dabi’s attempts, Shoto’s improvised use of his quirk successfully halted Dabi’s actions. Following this, a poignant moment was shared among the family as Dabi continued to berate his father while Endeavor apologized to each member of his family.

After chapter 388, an additional colored illustration of the Todoroki family was included at the end of volume 39. It featured all of the siblings and Rei, but surprisingly excluded Endeavor. This could possibly foreshadow the downfall of the number 1 hero after the ultimate battle.

The most recent appearance of the character was in chapter 421, where he joined Shoto in delivering a fire punch to TomurAFO. With his current fate remaining a mystery, the cover illustration of volume 39 may have hinted at Endeavor’s potential demise in the aftermath of the final battle, while also indicating that Dabi would survive.
