In an interview with medical professional Doctor Mike, British YouTube star TommyInnit shared his experience with testicular torsion, stating that it was the most excruciating pain he had ever endured.
Despite being open about his personal life, Tommy surprised his viewers in February 2024 when he shared a photo from his hospital bed wearing an oxygen mask. This was a stark contrast to when he had introduced his girlfriend to his audience in 2023.
The Minecraft YouTuber announced his “ball surgery”on Instagram in a post (https://www.instagram.com/p/C3azD6QI8ZZ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==). Two months later, he elaborated on the experience in an interview with fellow content creator and medical professional, Doctor Mike (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWquGKtHOzI).
According to Tommy, he woke up at 8 AM one morning with excruciating pain in his private area. He described the sensation as so intense that he was unable to make a sound.
“According to Doctor Mike, the person said, “I woke up and immediately felt that something was wrong. The pain was excruciating but I managed not to scream. It lasted for about a minute and was definitely the most painful experience I’ve ever had.”
The creator, who was 20 years old at the time, was living alone. As the people he would typically reach out to were unavailable, he decided to call emergency services and use Uber to get to the hospital. A doctor at the hospital determined that his right testicle might be in danger.
Doctor Mike clarified that Tommy was suffering from a condition known as testicular torsion, which is caused by the rotation of a testicle and results in a sudden, intense pain and swelling due to restricted blood flow.
Tommy remembered his doctor’s words, “You have been torsioned. I’m concerned that your testicle is currently dying. We must act quickly to save it.”
Despite Tommy referring to it as the “ball department,”the hospital was not equipped to handle his medical emergency. He was then transported by ambulance to a different medical center, located 40 minutes away, where he was diagnosed with a “dodgy sperm canal”and informed that he was at a higher risk for testicular torsion.
After several months had passed, Tommy ultimately had surgery to secure his testicle in place and prevent any future twisting. He recalls feeling quite anxious when his surgeon explained the procedure.
“As he stepped outside, he exclaimed, “I am really freaking out!”The overwhelming sensation of body horror caused him to start removing his clothes in order to cool down. Despite the winter chill, he paced around in just a t-shirt, still feeling extremely anxious and overwhelmed.”
The topic is introduced at 30:03.
The procedure for repairing testicular torsion involves making an incision in the scrotum, untwisting the twisted spermatic cord, and securing the testicle to the inner wall of the scrotum with sutures.
Only affecting approximately 1 in 4,000 individuals under the age of 25, testicular torsion is not a common occurrence. However, Doctor Mike emphasizes that it should always be treated as an urgent issue.
Upon regaining consciousness after his surgery, Tommy wasted no time in his typical manner of cracking jokes to the medical team. However, he insists that he cannot recall what he said. Thankfully, the operation was successful and his huevos are now out of harm’s way. This allows him to focus on recovering from the procedure and preparing for his upcoming live tour.
Tommy expressed his gratitude towards his medical experience, stating that he felt truly acknowledged and appreciated the seriousness with which the situation was handled.
Tommy has faced medical emergencies before. The YouTuber revealed that he experienced sepsis during his childhood, a condition in which the body’s response to an infection is flawed, resulting in it essentially attacking itself. According to Tommy, the sepsis was brought on by a cut on his knee, which was a terrifying ordeal for his parents at the time.
Despite having prior experience with surgery, he required another procedure on his collarbone due to a fall from a hammock onto hard ground, resulting in a damaged clavicle. Therefore, he is familiar with being in the operating room.
Tommy is currently taking a break from his US live tour, which he describes as one of the most memorable experiences of his life. The tour concluded on April 29, 2024, as seen on his Twitter post dated 1783687512109555854.
