Pony Canyon, the production company, launched a new website for the anime adaptation of Tomoko Yamashita’s Ikoku Nikki manga series on May 3, 2024. Along with the website, the company also unveiled a teaser visual, announced the main staff members working on the anime, and released a promotional trailer featuring the main voice cast of the series.
The Ikoku Nikki manga, a Josei series written and illustrated by Yamashita Tomoko, has been published since June 2017 and will conclude in June 2023 with a total of 11 volumes. A live-action adaptation of the manga is also scheduled to release later this year.
Upcoming Anime Adaptation for Ikoku Nikki Manga Series
The promotional video prominently showcased Koudai Makio, one of the main protagonists, as he roamed around the house engaging in various activities. The teaser visual for the anime adaptation also featured Takumi Asa, another protagonist of the series. Additionally, Koudai Makio was also highlighted in the released teaser visual for the upcoming adaptation.
At the time of writing this article, the details of the voice cast for the characters of the series have not yet been revealed. This manga series, along with other works such as Dining Bar Akira, Touch Me Again, Hibaru no Asa, and The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window, is among Yamashita Tomoko’s most successful works. In fact, it has even been adapted into an anime by animation studio ZERO-G in 2021.
The anime adaptation has announced the key staff members who will be involved. Miyuki Ooshiro, known for directing some episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen, will serve as the series director. Kouhei Kiyasu will be in charge of the scripts, while Kenji Hayama, who previously worked as the chief animation director for the Dororo reboot, will be responsible for character designs.
The soundtrack for the series will be composed by Kensuke Ushio, known for his work on The Dangers of My Heart, Chainsaw Man, and A Silent Voice. Apart from this, there is currently no additional information available about the upcoming anime adaptation of the Ikoku Nikki manga.
Synopsis of the Ikoku Nikki Manga
The Ikoku Nikki manga follows the story of Makio Koudai, a novelist who has a complex relationship with her older sister, Minori. Minori always criticized Makio for being different, leading to a strained relationship between the two. Tragically, Minori and her husband passed away in a car accident one day.
Upon receiving the news, Makio immediately went to comfort his niece and Minori’s daughter, Asa Takumi. Asa was in shock over the loss of her parents, but Makio was able to soothe her. However, the family was not prepared to provide support for Asa, so Makio stepped in and took on the responsibility despite his lack of experience. Will this new role teach Makio the true importance in life?

The release date and additional cast members have been announced for the anime “My Wife Has No Emotion”.
