The official staff of Tonbo! has confirmed that season 2 will premiere on October 5, 2024, as announced on Monday, September 2, 2024. The staff also revealed the addition of new cast members and details about the theme song artists. Furthermore, they shared new visuals of the returning characters.
The second season of Tonbo! continues the story from the first installment, which was broadcasted from April 6, 2024, to June 29, 2024 and consisted of 13 episodes. Based on the golf manga of the same name by author Ken Kawasaki and illustrator Yu Furusawa, the anime adaptation has been serialized by Weekly Golf Digest since August 2014 and currently has 50 tankobon volumes.
Tonbo! Season 2 Premieres on October 5, 2024
On Monday, September 2, 2024, the release date for the sequel of Tonbo! season 2 was announced on the official website and X (formerly Twitter) handle. According to the broadcast details, the sequel will air its episodes every Saturday at 10 pm JST starting October 5, 2024, on TV Tokyo and its affiliated channels.
In addition to TV Tokyo, Japanese viewers will be able to watch the sequel on BS TV Tokyo starting at 12:30 am JST on October 8, 2024. Digital distribution rights have been acquired by ABEMA and U-NEXT streaming services, so fans can also watch Tonbo! season 2 on these platforms. International viewers need not worry, as the show will be available for streaming on various global platforms such as iQIYI, Bahamut, Bilibili, Tubi, and others.
In addition to the broadcast details, the staff also revealed the names of the new cast members. Yu Ishikawa has been cast as Hinoki Otoha, described as Tonbo’s senior. Eiji Hanawa will voice Hajime Udo, the son of a driving range owner and Tonbo’s newly appointed golf coach.
Sanae Kobayashi, a well-known voice actress, portrays the character of Shima, a mother of a competitive golfer in the Kyushu Women’s Championship. Marina Inoe will also be joining as Emi Kurisu, a golfer of dual American and Japanese heritage, in the voice cast.
The anime’s official site has recently posted comments from the new voice actors, expressing their excitement to be a part of Tonbo! season 2. Additionally, the staff has also released new visuals for Tonbo, Tsubasa Adanya, and the newly introduced characters.
Rika Hayashi, Hiroki Tochi, Yui Ishikawa, and Junya Enoki all reprise their roles as Tonbo Oi, Kazuyoshi Igarashi, Hinoki Otowa, and Osamu Fumihara, respectively. The voice cast also includes Shin Aomori as Gonzo Oi, Mimi Maihane as Yoko Adaniya, and other talented actors.
The team also revealed that the Japanese pop duo, Sacra e sole, will be performing the opening theme song for season 2, titled Seven Pieces. Additionally, TOKYO GROOVE JYOSHI will be singing the ending theme, titled It’s Time to Win.
The majority of the primary staff members will return to their roles for season 2 of Tonbo!, including Jun Gu Oh as the director at OLM Studios, Mitsutaka Hirota as the script supervisor, Akira Takeuchi as the character designer, and Nobuko Toda as the music composer. Naozumi Kondo will take over as the color key artist, replacing Naoto Kondo, in the sequel.
Given the conclusion of the previous season, Tonbo! season 2 will feature Tonbo Oi, the main character, as a high school student playing golf. Her coach, Hajime, will urge her to participate in the Kyushu Women’s Championship.
