Jujutsu Kaisen is undoubtedly one of the top ‘battle shonen’ series, consistently delivering thrilling fights. Here are the 10 best battles in the series.
Although there have been many manga that focus on battles before Jujutsu Kaisen, it is undoubtedly one of the most successful. The main factor for this is its fight scenes. However, unlike traditional shonen fights that can be lengthy and dragged out, this manga’s battles are quick and intense, resulting in some truly thrilling moments.
The series establishes its tone right from the start by having the two most powerful characters face off against each other. Though the battle may not have a significant outcome due to the situation, it does offer a glimpse of what is to come.
In the time since, there have been numerous battles in Jujutsu Kaisen. While not all of them were successful, many have cemented their status as some of the greatest shonen fights. As a result, we have selected the top 10 most remarkable battles from the series.
10. Megumi vs. Finger Bearer
Starting our list with Megumi’s top moment is his intense battle during the Death Painting Arc. In this fight, the young sorcerer faces off against a formidable new adversary known as the Finger Bearer, a Curse who wields one of Sukuna’s fingers.
Ever since the start of the series, we have been given hints about Megumi’s hidden abilities. In this particular battle, we finally have the opportunity to witness them ourselves. When pushed to his limits, Megumi unleashes his domain expansion, although it is not yet perfected, and puts up a fierce fight against the curse.
9. Yuji and Nobara vs. Eso and Kechizu
This battle, also from the Death Painting Arc, features the two remaining first-year students facing off against the infamous Death Paintings. Similar to Megumi, Yuji and Nobara impress us with their incredible abilities, leaving us cheering along from our screens (or pages, if you’re reading the manga).
Nobara’s first use of Black Flash instantly made her a fan-favorite, while Yuji displayed his impressive physical strength. This fight, enhanced by MAPPA’s impeccable animation, is an essential and must-see moment in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Kenjaku vs. Choso and Yuki
Despite beginning with a lot of potential, Kenjaku’s character as a villain in Jujutsu Kaisen has ultimately been disappointing as the series nears its end. However, before the Shinjuku Showdown Arc undermines his character, he manages to redeem himself with his sinister schemes and one impressive battle.
During the chaotic Culling Game in Japan, Kenjaku pays a visit to his long-time friend Tengen. As a result, a fierce fight breaks out between him and Choso and Yuki, showcasing a variety of abilities from Blood Manipulation to Domain Expansion to Cursed Techniques.
7. Yuji and Todo vs. Hanami
Although the latter part of the manga is filled with battles, the first few arcs are also noteworthy for their exceptional fight scenes. A prime example can be seen in the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc, where Hanami causes chaos by invading Tokyo Jujutsu High.
Despite the failure of Megumi, Maki, Toge, and Kamo in defeating the curse, Yuji and Todo step up to take on the Special Grade. Their strong bond and impressive coordination lead to an incredible battle, only to be overshadowed by Gojo’s intervention as he unleashes Hollow Purple.
Maki vs. Zenin Clan
Despite there being three major clans in the jujutsu world, the focus remains solely on the Zenin Clan. They are portrayed as some of the most despicable characters in the series. Therefore, it is incredibly satisfying to witness Maki systematically dismantle the corrupt family until they are completely destroyed.
In the Perfect Preparation Arc, the disaster unfolds when Mai sacrifices herself to remove all of Maki’s cursed energy and transform her into the ideal vessel for the Heavenly Restriction. As a result, a second Toji emerges in the form of a vengeful Maki who will stop at nothing until she has taken revenge on the entire family.
Yuji and Todo vs. Mahito
It is widely acknowledged that Mahito is the most exasperating character in Jujutsu Kaisen. He ruthlessly takes lives, deceives Junpei, and relentlessly torments Yuji. And those are only a few of his misdeeds in one season. In Season 2, he becomes even more despicable.
Despite his involvement in the Shibuya Incident Arc where he killed Nanami and nearly defeated Nobara, Mahito finally receives his retribution from Yuji and Aoi. This highly anticipated moment was well worth the wait, especially with the stunning animation showcased in the show.
4. Yuta vs. Geto
Yuta vs. Geto is the sole battle featured in the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie, but it holds great significance for both characters. For Yuta, it serves as a catalyst for unlocking his full potential and ultimately brings peace to his cursed spirit, Rika. However, for Geto, it marks his final fight before his betrayal by his closest ally results in his demise.
Despite the impressive abilities of both fighters, this battle is sure to be memorable. Not only will we witness Yuta’s debut of Copy, but we will also witness Geto’s ultimate technique. The only drawback to this clash is its reliance on the cliché of ‘love conquering all’.
3. Gojo’s Battle Against Jogo, Hanami, Mahito, and Choso
To be fair, Gojo’s powers could land him on this list every time he uses them. However, for the sake of other characters, he is not given many opportunities to showcase his abilities as he is quickly imprisoned in the game. Nonetheless, he puts up an incredible fight against the Disaster Curses before his capture.
The main objective of the battle is to delay and divert Gojo’s attention long enough to trap him in the Prison Realm. This is because the curses never stood a chance against him, and Gojo proves to be a formidable opponent. He effortlessly kills Hanami and briefly opens his domain, providing us with plenty of entertainment before disappearing from the series for an extended period of time.
Sukuna vs. Mahoraga
Despite facing criticism for its animation quality and the workload of the animators, the anime adaptation of Sukuna vs. Mahoraga remains one of the most memorable fights in Jujutsu Kaisen for numerous reasons. Despite the challenges, it ultimately proved to be one of the standout moments in the show.
Taking place during the Shibuya Incident Arc, this battle commences when Megumi finally summons Mahoraga, but is quickly defeated by the Shikigami. Fortunately, Sukuna arrives just in the nick of time to rescue the young sorcerer and engage in an exhilarating fight that keeps us on the edge of our seats.
Gojo vs. Sukuna
Despite initial fears that the Gojo vs. Sukuna clash would be a disappointment like many long-anticipated events, it proved to be the most thrilling and enjoyable fight by far, much to everyone’s surprise and delight.
This battle between two individuals in the series spans over 10 chapters, making it the longest one yet. It includes a wide range of elements such as multiple Domain clashes, repeated healing, and sleek hand-to-hand combat, along with endless trash-talking, providing an all-encompassing experience.
The battle between Gojo and Sukuna stands as the pinnacle of Jujutsu Kaisen, culminating in an iconic finale that has become well-known even among non-viewers of the series. Therefore, it is only fitting that this fight holds the top spot on our ranking.
We must mention the incredible fights between Gojo and Jogo, Toji and Gojo, Yuji and Choso, Yuta and Ishigori and Uro, and Sukuna and Jogo. Although all of these battles are exceptional, we chose not to include some of them to prevent repetition (as there are numerous impressive fights involving Gojo and Sukuna). The remaining clashes were just narrowly edged out.
