<p>Even though the Jujutsu Kaisen manga has concluded, its narrative still holds significant potential for exploring various new directions. Here are ten characters who could effectively lead potential spin-offs.
Despite its captivating storyline, Jujutsu Kaisen noticeably lacks extensive world-building. Throughout the 271 chapters, we’ve only scratched the surface of this magical universe, leaving much to discover about jujutsu—its history and its variations across different countries beyond Japan.
This signifies that Jujutsu Kaisen would greatly benefit from a spin-off—yet who would helm this new tale? There are numerous exceptional characters who could anchor side stories and further engage fans. Some of these characters—like Kenjaku and Sukuna—could transport us back in time, while others—such as Higuruma and Maki—might guide us into the future.
Let’s dive into our selection of the top characters for any prospective Jujutsu Kaisen spin-off. (Warning: Spoilers ahead!)
10. Right
Tengen stands out as the only immortal jujutsu sorcerer known to exist, making them undeniably fascinating. Bearing the weight of humanity’s fate, they serve as a foundation of jujutsu society; however, their appearances in the main story are somewhat limited.
A spin-off centered around Tengen could provide a deeper look into their character and jujutsu sorcery’s history. Exploring Tengen’s life as a young woman before their transformation would significantly enhance our understanding of the jujutsu universe.
Additionally, Tengen’s complex friendship with Kenjaku is a captivating aspect of their backstory. While we catch a glimpse of their unusual connection before Kenjaku kills Tengen, the origins and deterioration of this relationship remain unexplored. Perhaps a Tengen-focused spin-off could illuminate this narrative?
9. My Kenja
As one of the most enigmatic characters in the series, a spin-off led by Kenjaku would be an exciting addition to the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise. This parasitic curse user has created chaos throughout history.
Kenjaku’s manipulation of sorcerers across various eras and his orchestration of Yuji’s birth all present compelling stories for a side tale. Moreover, his notorious role as Noritoshi Kamo, the most reviled sorcerer in history, who also created Choso and the Death Paintings, should not be overlooked.
I would personally love to see how he encountered Kaori Itadori and what transpired post-Yuji’s birth. What were his motivations, and why didn’t he ever reach out to Yuji? These are just some of the intriguing questions a spin-off could explore.
8. Miguel Oduol
From the outset of Jujutsu Kaisen, it is established that Japan harbors a greater number of curses and jujutsu sorcerers than any other region globally, which raises fascination with foreign sorcerers like Miguel Oduol.
Not only is Miguel a competent fighter trusted by Gojo, but he also has a vibrant personality. A story centered on him could delve into what he faces within his home country and introduce us to another nation’s jujutsu society and its unique fighters.
This spin-off could also deepen our understanding of Miguel’s relationship with Yuta. Despite their significant time spent together, their interaction during the battle against Sukuna was minimal. Given their contrasting personalities, witnessing these two in a foreign environment would likely be entertaining.
7. Maki Zenin
The shonen genre has evolved significantly, moving away from simply portraying female characters as love interests or sources of fan service. However, there remains a shortage of female-led mainstream shonen manga, a gap that could be addressed by granting Maki her own spin-off.
Maki deserves her own story not merely for being a female character but because her journey holds immense potential. As noted by Sukuna during the Shinjuku Showdown, Maki’s powers resulting from Heavenly Restriction hint at the future of jujutsu sorcery.
Her lack of cursed energy positions her as the embodiment of Yuki Tsukumo’s vision and possibly the key to eradicating curses forever. While this transformation wouldn’t occur in a single generation, a narrative following Maki’s progress could be fascinating.
6. Hiromi Higuruma
Higuruma is a relatively recent addition who has quickly garnered fans’ affection. Although it was heartbreaking to witness his demise during the Shinjuku Showdown, his survival is revealed in the epilogue.
In Chapter 270, he expresses intentions to work actively as a jujutsu sorcerer, paving the way for numerous intriguing possibilities in a spin-off. Higuruma could headline a sequel series, undertaking a quest to rid Japan of curses.
Furthermore, this spin-off could provide insight into his relationship with Yuji. Their mentor-mentee bond resembles Higuruma’s connection with Nanami. With Nanami’s death, observing Yuji evolve into a better sorcerer under Higuruma’s mentorship would be a satisfying narrative arc.
5. Toji Fushiguro
As the only true outlier in the jujutsu world until Maki unlocked her abilities, Toji having a spin-off series would undoubtedly be captivating. His journey from being an outcast in the Zenin Clan to falling in love with Megumi’s mother offers rich material for storytelling.
What unfolds next provides a promising premise for a prequel spin-off. We’ve primarily witnessed Toji as a ruthless assassin; thus, exploring the countless battles he endured to attain his immense strength would be full of exhilarating action.
Additionally, I would enjoy seeing a different side of Toji: a family-oriented man devoted to his wife and son while simultaneously being a formidable combatant against sorcerers and curses. Even though this contrasts the typical tone of Jujutsu Kaisen, such diversity could greatly enrich the franchise.
4. Yuki Tsukumo
One of my primary frustrations with Jujutsu Kaisen is its underutilization of Yuki Tsukumo. As a Special-Grade sorcerer with visionary ideas about eradicating curses entirely, Yuki had much to contribute to the narrative.
However, her time in the series was tragically cut short when Kenjaku killed her before she could showcase her Domain Expansion. This oversight could be rectified with a dedicated spin-off, chronicling her various missions and adventures.
Numerous routes are available for this narrative, as much of Yuki’s background remains a mystery. The spin-off could delve into the mentorship she provided to Todo, enriching their relationship while presenting thrilling training sequences.
3. Yuta Okkotsu
This may appear to be a bit of a loophole, as Yuta already stars in his own spin-off—Jujutsu Kaisen 0—where he is introduced to the jujutsu realm. However, considering the wealth of his untapped abilities, I would welcome further exploration of his journey.
Furthermore, an intriguing opportunity arises since we know Yuta spent a year abroad with Miguel, significantly enhancing his strength. This time frame also marks Rika’s mysterious return, making a spin-off the perfect format to explore this pivotal event.
Moreover, following Yuta’s adventures would be sheer joy. This young protagonist is well-developed, relatable, and intelligent, and watching him engage with new characters within Miguel’s country while enhancing his powers alongside Rika would be exhilarating.
2. Satoru Gojo
The connection between Gojo and Jujutsu Kaisen is quite unique. Although Gojo is undoubtedly the series’ most beloved character, he has faced considerable adversity in the narrative. Nevertheless, this trauma has only amplified fans’ desire to learn more about him.
This need has only grown following the conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen. A dedicated spin-off for Gojo could address this yearning, as he deserves to star in his own storyline as one of the series’ most formidable and compelling characters. Personally, I would enjoy seeing him during his school days engaging in missions alongside Geto and Shoko.
Alternatively, exploring Gojo’s childhood could also be rewarding. Given its somber undertones, including his early separation from his parents and the numerous bounties placed on his head, such a focus might lack high action but would resonate deeply with his character.
1. Ryomen Sukuna
Besides the action sequences, fans have long requested a detailed Jujutsu Kaisen flashback centered on the Heian Era and the ascension of Sukuna as the King of Curses. Unfortunately, this desire was unfulfilled as the manga concluded unexpectedly after the Shinjuku Showdown Arc.
Nonetheless, the door remains open for fulfilling this request through a spin-off featuring Sukuna as the central character. Such a narrative could become one of the franchise’s most compelling arcs, providing insight into our final villain while offering thrilling confrontations.
Furthermore, the finale of Jujutsu Kaisen strengthens the case for an exploration of the Heian Era. This prequel could delve profoundly into Sukuna’s intricate relationship with his mother, his troubling childhood, and his first encounters with Uraume, his most loyal follower.
As of now, no announcements have been made regarding Jujutsu Kaisen Part 2 or any spin-offs, but we can remain hopeful for announcements in the future.
