While professional Overwatch play has been around since 2016 through APEX, it wasn’t until the establishment of the Overwatch League in 2018 that it truly gained widespread attention. With major franchises investing significant funds to participate in the League, it was impossible to ignore the impact of this esport, regardless of which one you followed.
Despite its initial success, the league ultimately collapsed and was replaced by the Overwatch Championship Series, a league open to any team wishing to compete at the highest level.
San Francisco Shock’s back-to-back championships land many of their alumni players in the top 20.
The top 20 list is primarily composed of ex-OWL champions, with former players from the San Francisco Shock leading the way. However, there are also several players from the Dallas Fuel and Shanghai Dragons, both of whom have won championships, featured on the list.
