Top 5 Lesser-Known Easter Eggs in the Borderlands Movie

You may have witnessed the excitement and responses, but have you discovered the Easter eggs? Some are not easily noticeable, so here are the top five hidden Easter eggs in the Borderlands movie.

It’s important to acknowledge the obvious… Borderlands is currently struggling at the box office. The film’s release received a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with many fans criticizing it as a “disaster”and the “worst movie of the year.”

Despite its flaws, there is still some hope for the film. Director Eli Roth has clarified that the film exists within its own canon and has even teased the possibility of introducing more characters in the future, such as Mordecai and Handsome Jack.

Despite the abundance of obvious Easter eggs – totaling around 40 – what about the ones we may have missed? Not all of them are as easily noticeable. In this article, we will highlight the five Easter eggs from the Borderlands movie that you are most likely to have overlooked. Be warned, spoilers lie ahead.

Besides

Krom in Borderlands
Gearbox Software

It had been widely speculated that Krom would make an appearance in the Borderlands movie after the casting announcements were revealed in 2021. However, the true surprise lies in the form of Krom’s appearance itself, rather than the mere fact that he is a character in the film.

Dedicated followers will likely recognize that there are significant distinctions between the film version of Krom and his portrayal in the video game. In the gaming world, he is depicted as the individual seen above, having formerly served as a prison warden and later rising to power as a bandit chief.

Krom, the prison warden, continues to be portrayed as the main character in the action movie adaptation. However, instead of his iconic face mask, he is now seen wearing a black helmet. As Lilith searches for the second key to the vault, we see Krom working alongside Atlas.

Bloodshot Stronghold references

As the group searched for the keys to open the vault, little did they know that they were about to enter a classic location from Borderlands 2, the Caustic Caverns. Although their efforts may not lead them very far, they remain determined in their pursuit.

While the setting may be familiar, one may not have noticed the mentions of Bloodshot Stronghold in these scenes. The gang’s adventures make references to both Bloodshots and Raiders.

You will also come across mentions of Psychos, a villain with a disturbing fixation on the Vault.

In Borderlands 2, players face a major challenge in defeating the Psychos of Bloodshot Stronghold. Another enemy, the Raiders, are known for their speed but do not play a significant role in the film’s plot.

Lectra City

The Easter egg in Lectra City within Borderlands may initially seem like a distraction, but if you pay close attention, it is briefly mentioned.

Before returning to Pandora, Lilith works independently as a lone ranger. It is evident that she prefers to keep a certain level of distance from her employers, but as long as the compensation is satisfactory, she is willing to take on the job.

When Atlas arrives to recruit her for the Tiny Tina case, she is discovered on Promethea – a well-known location in Borderlands 3.

During her time at the bar, Lilith revealed that she had completed a large heist and received a significant bounty. Her account closely resembled the events that took place in Lectra City.

This is another location that can be found in Borderlands 3, although it is not as prominent as Promethea.

Claptrap’s Greatest Enemy

Claptrap, the class clown in the Borderlands movie, offers the most abundant supply of crude humor. However, this does not mean that he is free from his own personal struggles.

Lilith programmed Claptrap to assist her on her return to Pandora, and he remains eagerly awaiting her arrival. However, a recurring joke in the franchise is Claptrap’s fear of stairs, which is depicted throughout the movie.

It may seem strange to the untrained eye that we often witness the one-eyed robot facing off against his non-living nemesis, whether he’s being knocked down by Roland or struggling to climb up.

The origins of this can be traced back to Borderlands 2, where players aim to confront Handsome Jack while listening to Claptrap’s constant chatter. However, everything shifts once you encounter a flight of stairs – although Borderlands 3 does show that he is capable of climbing them after all.

The Destroyer

What could be hiding in the vault? The Borderlands movie leaves us uncertain. After Atlas attempts to use Tina as a hostage in the vault, Lilith saves her and something pulls him into the shadows as retribution.

The vault is then resealed, and no one makes any remarks about the presence of a potentially immense life force hidden within.

In Borderlands 1, the outcome is different. Upon opening the vault, the lifeforce known as The Destroyer appears and swiftly eliminates Commandant Steele and her team.

Upon encountering The Destroyer, players eliminate it immediately and securely seal the vault once again, ensuring its permanent closure.
