In Metaphor: ReFantazio, while any Archetype can fulfill its role, assembling the optimal team is essential for excelling in each dungeon or region. This game revolves around pinpointing and exploiting the vulnerabilities of your foes!
Forget about Personas and Demons; in this game, you need to focus on harmonizing with the Archetypes of your Followers. Each one possesses unique abilities, allowing for innovative combinations of skills and passive traits to create a formidable team.
In this article, I’ll present the top Archetype combinations that will streamline your journey through all the missions and challenges in Metaphor.
Optimal Archetypes for the Catacombs: Necromancer Confrontation
An effective Archetype trio for tackling foes in the Cathedral includes a Mage, a Healer, and a Knight.
As the Catacombs teem with Undead, which are particularly susceptible to Light attacks, deploying a Healer equipped with Hama is your best defense. This Healer will not only deal damage but also keep the team healthy against enemy assaults. A Mage can take down the Lifewrought Gargoz lurking in higher levels with wind spells like Cyc, while the Knight provides necessary protection to the more vulnerable Archetypes with Knight’s Proclamation.
Top Archetypes for Belega Corridor: A Bullish Blockade
The ideal setup for facing adversaries in Belega Corridor and against the Guptauros is two Knights partnered with a Seeker. If you’ve unlocked the Magic Seeker and Knight, you’re in a good position.
To dive into this quest, it’s crucial to enhance your Royal Virtues. The Guptaurus doesn’t take kindly to staves, so relying on a Healer or Mage might not be the safest bet, despite their advantageous magic. Enemies in this locale are vulnerable to Piercing damage, a specialty of the Knight and Magic Knight. Ensure your Seeker has inherited Blizz from your Mage to provide additional magic support to bring the Guptaurus down.
Optimal Archetypes for Maneater Manjula Bounty
To conquer the Lord of Tradia Desert, you should assemble a squad consisting of a Mage with Blizz, a Knight, and a Warrior. If you’ve got access to the Magic Seeker and Magic Knight, they’ll serve you well.
The Maneater Manjula is particularly vulnerable to Ice-related attacks, so employing Blizz will expedite your victory. Additionally, stock up on Robust Remedy from the General Store to counteract any Poison statuses.
Top Archetypes for King of the Imps Bounty
The best combination to take down the King of the Imps includes a Gunner/Warrior, a Seeker, and a Knight.
There are no specific weaknesses to exploit, so focus on bringing Archetypes that can deal area damage to tackle multiple foes simultaneously. If you defeat the Goborn King last, or use a staff, he may become enraged, so prioritize physical damage. Also, consider bringing consumables that can induce Sleep status on the enemies.
Optimal Archetypes for the Abandoned Tomb: A Dagger, a Ring, and a Rake
The best team composition for the quest A Dagger, a Ring, and a Rake includes a Cleric, Merchant, Knight, and Gunner. Remember to inherit the Steal ability to grab treasures from the chest enemies.
In the Abandoned Tomb, you’ll encounter foes that disguise themselves as treasure chests. The Merchant’s Gold Attack is a formidable choice, costing 500 Reeve to execute. These mimic enemies show a weakness to Piercing attacks, making the inclusion of a Knight or Gunner vital.
Upon reaching the encounter with Kadablich, the Cleric’s Hamaon skill will be pivotal since this boss is susceptible to Light attacks.
Top Archetypes for Sandworm Belly and Nest: The Old Castle Town Kidnapper
For tackling the kidnapper, the best Archetypes include a Mage, Gunner, Thief, and Magic Knight.
In this area, enemies are particularly weak to Kande (Electric magic) and Piercing attacks, allowing you to effectively neutralize any threats in Sandworm Belly and Nest.
Best Archetypes for Alpha Rockworm Valmo Bounty (Man-Eater’s Grotto)
The ideal Archetype assembly for battling Alpha Rockworm Valmo comprises a Wizard, Mage Knight, and Gunner. Ensure each member is equipped with at least one Ice-based skill.
Both the Alpha Rockworm Valmo and its weaker counterparts exhibit a vulnerability to Ice, making Blizz and Gablizz essential in your arsenal. During the boss showdown, spawning Gablizz allows you to inflict damage on both adversaries at once; if they fall separately, they may respawn. Ice Chunks are also advantageous in this fight!
Optimal Archetypes for Kriegante Castle: Capture the Real Kidnapper
Assembling a team of Magic Knight, Cleric, Gunner, and Faker works best for your adventures in Kriegante Castle.
Most enemies encountered within the castle’s sewers are weak to Piercing damage, making the Magic Knight and Gunner ideal choices. The Cleric will ensure your team stays in prime condition while dealing damage. The final boss, while lacking specific weaknesses, is vulnerable to negative status effects, so stock up on consumables from the General Store or Gloomhall.
Top Archetypes for Gracia Forest
The optimal combination to face the Kokasados includes a Faker or Commander, a Sniper, a Magic Knight, and an Assassin.
While Kokasados is manageable, it can deliver devastating blows that threaten to wipe out your party. To prevent this, bring along either a Faker or Commander to debuff Kokasados or buff your team – ideally achieving both. Since this creature is susceptible to Pierce damage, adding a Sniper and Magic Knight to your lineup is crucial.
Best Archetype for Superior Scrimshaw: Orgas
Your best Archetypes to tackle Orgas are an Assassin, Faker, Sniper, and Magic Knight.
The pivotal Archetype for this battle is the Assassin, provided it has the Mudo or Mamudo skill inherited, making it effective against Orgas’s Dark magic weaknesses. The Faker’s role in this fight is crucial for both debilitating Orgas and buffing your team. The Sniper and Magical Knight are reliable participants due to their strength, but any capable Archetypes could also fulfill these roles.
Optimal Archetype for Tomb of Lament: Mourning the Ghost of the Goblet Bounty
The ideal team to confront the Fatolich includes a Cleric, Wizard, Magic Knight, and Sniper.
Due to the potent Dark magic specialized by the Fatolich, it’s essential to field a Magic Knight for protection. The Knight can reflect non-Light magic, while the Cleric can deal much-needed Light magic damage. Strong physical attacks and wind magic are necessary for handling the Chimera, both of which the Magic Knight and Wizard can provide.
This guide will be updated as I progress through Metaphor. In the meantime, focus on enhancing your MP capacity to better face the more magic-oriented Archetypes you’ll unlock later in the game.
