While Frostpunk 2 predominantly focuses on internal challenges rather than external threats, the relentless cold remains the chief concern throughout your city-building experience. Keeping your population warm and alive during the brutal snowstorms is vital.
During the game’s narrative, you will uncover methods to acquire relatively permanent fuel for New London and beyond. However, locating this resource can be challenging. Here’s a guide on how to secure permanent fuel in Frostpunk 2 and maximize its production, ensuring that you never need to fret about coal shortages again.
Where to Find Permanent Fuel
The optimal location to acquire permanent fuel in Frostpunk 2 is at the Desolate Coast, situated to the northwest of New London. It’s essential to note that you must unlock the Frozen Bay first, which is located just beyond this area.
To achieve this, progress through the storyline, completing necessary tasks until you unlock exploration. Once you do, Frostbreak to the outskirts of New London, heading specifically to a location marked by a compass symbol. Then, set up your Logistics District and embark on exploration.
On the larger map, head to the northwest region known as Frozen Bay and utilize your scouts to gather its resources. You can explore the question mark icons that appear, and by clicking on the central one, you’ll discover that Oil is available in the Desolate Coast.
Use your scouts once more to investigate the area directly left of Frozen Bay, recognized as the Desolate Coast. Upon unlocking it, click on the central question mark and opt to ‘build a new colony on this site.’
Shortly thereafter, you’ll be prompted to decide whether to move the bodies or leave them undisturbed. We recommend relocating them; the benefits of increased oil production far outweigh any downsides.
How to Farm Oil in Scraping the Barrel
Upon reaching Old Dreadnaught, your task will be to establish a new colony, albeit with limited resources primarily centered around Oil.
Inside, you’ll locate three deposits to extract from, so your initial action should be to Frostbreak to each and set up Extraction Districts (highlighted in yellow in the image below). With thousands of individuals relocating there, you must also establish housing. Place a housing district in the center of the valley, where it will benefit from being sheltered by the surrounding walls.
After setting everything up, we recommend enhancing your Extractors and installing Hydraulic Pumpjacks at each extraction point to boost your Oil production.
Transferring Resources
The next hurdle is the issue of resource allocation. Since Old Dreadnaught lacks food sources and other materials, resource transfers will be necessary. You’ll need to send Oil back to New London to prevent the Generator from failing.
