Netflix has already released 99 original movies on their streaming service this year, including new documentaries. Among these releases are standout films such as Adam Sandler’s Spaceman and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
Some have been letdowns, fading from your mind as soon as the end credits appear; Rebel Moon: Part 2, Atlas, and Unfrosted are among the most disappointing.
Generally, licensed titles tend to have better performance than Netflix’s original content. For instance, Suits gained a lot of popularity as a streaming show last year, and fans of Young Sheldon are eagerly anticipating the release of Season 7.
Super Mario Bros: Netflix’s Top Movie of 2024
A perfect example of this is The Super Mario Bros Movie, which made its way to Netflix in December 2023 and has remained on the Top 10 chart in the US since then.
Currently, the film is not simply maintaining its 10th place position; in fact, Mario is confidently occupying the 8th spot, surpassing both Shrek and Wicked Little Letters despite facing competition from every newly released film.
The fact that it is one of the highest-grossing movies of all time (with Mario just behind Barbie in 2023) and that it is being regularly watched by kids and fans, should not come as a shock, considering its widespread popularity.
“The Mario movie has become a staple in our household. We first watched it in the theatre and now it’s on Netflix, where we watch it almost four times a week,”one user tweeted. Another user pointed out that the movie has consistently remained in the top 10 on Netflix, and has been available to stream much earlier than other new releases. It seems the movie has cemented its place on the Netflix charts and shows no signs of leaving anytime soon.
When is the release date for Super Mario Bros Movie 2?
The US release date for the sequel to The Super Mario Bros Movie is set for April 3, 2026.
Despite the lack of information surrounding the Super Mario Bros 2 plot, it is anticipated that Yoshi will make an appearance following the first film’s post-credits scene, and there is a possibility that Waluigi and Wario will also make their debut. It is assumed that Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), and Jack Black (Bowser) will all reprise their roles.
“There is an abundance of things to discover as there are many years’ worth of [games] to explore, not only featuring beloved characters like Mario, Peach, Donkey Kong, Luigi, Bowser, and Yoshi, as hinted at in the end,”Pratt stated in an interview with Screen Rant.
“But the thought of it just gets me incredibly thrilled. As a huge fan of Nintendo since my childhood, I can’t help but imagine the endless possibilities of creating a Nintendo cinematic universe, from the classic Legend of Zelda to all the beloved characters. The potential is limitless and I could easily talk about it for hours.”
