Certain anime have the ability to leave a lasting impact and remain on your mind for an extended period. However, those that linger due to an absence of resolution often leave a bittersweet aftertaste. There are numerous factors that contribute to why certain beloved series were never given a proper conclusion. Here is a compilation of incomplete anime that continue to have devoted fans eagerly anticipating their continuation:
My Little Monster
Despite originally being geared towards a shoujo audience, My Little Monster still leaves many unresolved mysteries. Even with its limited 13 episodes, the anime has captured the hearts of many viewers and left them eagerly awaiting answers. Unfortunately, despite the completion of the manga, it seems unlikely that the anime will continue and provide closure to all the unanswered questions.
9. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Despite being a classic in the anime industry, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya faced a hiatus of nearly nine years for its light novels and the anime’s second season came to an end. While a film was released, often referred to as the unofficial third season, the story remains unfinished and it is uncertain if it will continue in the near future.
Blue Spring Ride
Despite being a beloved series that fell victim to the shoujo curse, Blue Spring Ride has remained a fan favorite since its debut. Even after ten years, the anime community continues to share content about Kou and Futaba, proving its lasting impact. However, to the disappointment of its fans, the much-awaited continuation and conclusion of the series never materialized.
Berserk
Even though Berserk was a tragic story in both its storyline and its fate, it gained immense popularity. Sadly, the sudden passing of the author, Kentaro Miura, in 2021, led us to believe that it would never have a proper conclusion. However, his colleagues have taken up the task of continuing the manga and doing justice to his work. Yet, the possibility of the anime being continued seems like a distant dream, especially considering how the first adaptation failed to live up to the beloved manga.
6. Analysis of Hyouka Series
Despite being released in 2012, Hyouka was a refreshing change from typical shoujo anime. With its focus on slice-of-life and mystery, it captivated its fans and still holds a strong grip on them, even though the light novel is still being published. Unfortunately, the anime has little chance of a continuation, leaving fans eagerly waiting for its return.
Chapter 5: Nana
Despite its hiatus since 2009, Nana by Yazawa Ai continues to captivate readers with its beautiful portrayal of girlhood, exploring themes of friendship, love, and the bittersweet experiences that accompany them. The manga and its anime adaptation remain unfinished, leaving fans eagerly hoping for Yazawa to resume the story.
Stars Align
Despite being an underdog and a niche sports cult favorite, Stars Align tackles sensitive issues with great care. The show was initially planned for 24 episodes, but was ultimately reduced to just 12, leaving the first season on a major cliffhanger. However, due to lackluster sales, the anime’s future is uncertain.
Noragami
Despite its unquestionable popularity due to its dynamic characters and intense yet hilarious plot, Noragami faced challenges with its anime adaptation due to the author’s health issues which caused long breaks in the manga. The last installment of the anime was in 2015, but with the manga now completed, there is hope for a continuation.
Hunter x Hunter
Undoubtedly, Hunter x Hunter is one of the greatest anime series to date. Although it may appear that the story reached its end after Gon finally reunited with his father, it is far from over. Many characters still have unfinished stories and there is a vast amount of unexplored territory. While the manga has resumed after a four-year hiatus, there has been no announcement of the anime’s return.
Ouran High School Host Club
Despite being a beloved classic, Ouran High School Host Club has fallen victim to the shoujo curse. Its tragic fate needs no further explanation. The anime had everything – lovable and mischievous characters, a captivating and humorous plot, and just the right balance of melancholy and intense moments. However, it has not been aired since 2006 and shows no signs of being revived.
Even though it may seem unlikely, there is still hope for other beloved series to return just like Kimi Ni Todoke did after a 13-year hiatus.
