Choa of Crayon Pop Shares Her Cervical Cancer Surgery Experience: “Diagnosed at 33, It Was the Toughest Time of My Life”

On October 14, Choa publicly opened up about her struggle with cervical cancer through her social media platforms.

She stated, “Many individuals are enduring far more than I am, so I remain cautious. However, I believe that sharing my journey might offer some comfort and hope to others, no matter how small. Cancer has taken away many aspects of my life, but it has also bestowed upon me profound insights and lessons concerning my life’s path. Currently, I am living a healthier and more vibrant existence.”

Choa elaborated, “I am nearing another surgical procedure aimed at safeguarding my fertility. Since my cervix had to be removed, I will be undergoing a procedure to tie my uterine body in preparation.” She expressed her aspirations, saying, “Despite the numerous challenges ahead for conceiving and childbirth, I wish to meet a lovely child, embrace motherhood, and provide solace and hope to those who have faced similar trials after my full recovery.”

She encouraged those struggling, saying, “If you find yourself in a profoundly challenging and dark phase right now, remember that this too shall pass, and hold on to your thread of hope.”

In a video accompanying her post, Choa shared, “At 33, I was diagnosed with cancer. Last May, I was joyfully celebrating my first wedding anniversary. During a routine prenatal check-up, I received the devastating news about my cervical cancer diagnosis.” She reminisced, “Initially, I was in disbelief. How could someone so young and seemingly healthy receive such a diagnosis? I questioned if it was a mistake. I consulted five of the leading university hospitals in the nation.”

She continued, “I underwent a series of cancer screenings, including my first MRI and PET CT scan. I was diagnosed with Stage 1 cancer. The doctors informed me that due to a 3 cm tumor, preserving my fertility would be a challenge. It felt utterly shocking, and I was inconsolable, my legs felt weak, and I couldn’t see a way forward. This was the hardest period of my life, but I held my husband’s hand tightly, prayed fervently, and remained resilient.” She further shared, “To shrink the tumor, I pursued every possible avenue. I educated myself daily, maintained a strict exercise routine, and transformed my diet completely.”
