A Different Path Post-Marriage

While Knock-Off was anticipated to mark her return to acting after marriage, Jo Bo-ah has instead re-emerged through the Netflix historical mystery melodrama Dear Hongrang. The future of Knock-Off hangs in the balance, mainly due to ongoing controversies involving lead actor Kim Soo-hyun.

Response to the Delay

In response to queries about the series’ halted release, Jo Bo-ah chose her words carefully.“I want to be careful. My words could unintentionally hurt someone, so I prefer to stay quiet about it.” Highlighting her investment in the project, she added, “It was a project we prepared with great enthusiasm for a long time. Everyone worked hard on it. I believe that one day, the efforts will be recognized and the show will have a good outcome.”

Embracing New Roles

Currently, Jo Bo-ah is receiving acclaim for her role in Dear Hongrang, marking her official comeback after her marriage. This series narrates the story of Hong-rang, the long-lost son of a wealthy Joseon merchant family, who returns with no memories after a twelve-year absence, only to contend with skepticism from his half-sister, Jae-yi, played by Jo Bo-ah herself.

Reflecting on her experiences during the project, she remarked, “We filmed for about eight months, concluding around May of last year. It feels different now that it’s finally being released. I was single during the shoot, but now, as a married woman, it feels like I am viewing a younger version of myself on screen. So much has changed in my life since then.”

Experiences on Set

Discussing the challenges and joys of filming a period drama, she expressed, “It was fun. I realized how complex and charming the genre is. We filmed across various locations, and I donned traditional hanbok and braided hairstyles, adding to the authenticity. I remember layering multiple pairs of fleece pants to stay warm during those winter shoots.”

A Professional Outlook

Even amidst the uncertainty surrounding Knock-Off, Jo Bo-ah’s poised approach and unwavering commitment to her craft spotlight her professionalism and burgeoning strength as an actress.
