K-pop enthusiasts are currently buzzing with excitement over the new phenomenon of the “national husband” —Mingyu from SEVENTEEN. This rapper, hailing from the immensely popular boy group, embodies everything that captures the attention of fans. He features stunning visuals, an impressive height of 1.87 meters, and a perfectly sculpted six-pack body that has left admirers spellbound. Alongside Jungkook and Cha Eun Woo, Mingyu forms part of the hottest K-pop trio from the 97 line.
Known widely as a heartthrob, Mingyu is in high demand for advertisements and frequently appears in top fashion campaigns. However, alongside his rising fame come numerous unfounded scandals. Recently, fans of SEVENTEEN have become increasingly concerned as Mingyu has been embroiled in sensitive controversies.
Caught in pornographic deepfake and fake rumors
Currently, South Korea is grappling with a pressing issue involving “sexual chat rooms” where explicit deepfake videos are circulated, affecting nearly 2,000 victims. Many celebrities have had their images manipulated into these deepfake videos, which has sparked significant concern among fans. Entertainment companies like YG, JYP, and CUBE have swiftly intervened, issuing statements to safeguard their artists. Among male idols, Mingyu has been repeatedly targeted in widely circulated deepfake videos.
Moreover, Mingyu’s name has been unjustly included in lists purportedly tracking celebrities involved in these sexual chat rooms. As a result, he, along with several other male artists, has faced a baseless “witch hunt” from confused netizens misled by false information. Various accounts seeking to amplify “fake interactions” have propagated misleading rumors, inflicting unwarranted suspicion upon stars, particularly Mingyu.
Secretly photographed by a staff member, leaked sensitive photos
Mingyu’s issues didn’t end there. Recently, while filming a body wash commercial, a staff member from the brand surreptitiously took photographs of him. This incident involved a shirtless Mingyu behind the scenes.
The staff member posted the photos online with a caption expressing enjoyment in having taken many pictures of Mingyu. This sparked immediate outrage from SEVENTEEN fans, as this was not the first time the person had leaked behind-the-scenes content. Previously, they were accused of photographing BTS’s Jin, garnering further controversy for their behavior.
These leaked sensitive photos of Mingyu rapidly spread across social media, inciting deep concern about the invasion of the idol’s privacy. The ongoing deepfake issue continues to be a major worry. In response to the backlash, the brand Mingyu was working with issued an apology and promised to take action. Nevertheless, fans remain anxious and continue to urge his management company, Pledis, to safeguard their artist.
