On June 20, Renjun shared an individual’s phone number on Bubble, accusing them of being a sasaeng and “exposing”them. As a result, the individual received numerous unwanted calls and hurtful messages, leading them to report the incident to the authorities.

Following the individual’s report to the police, SM Entertainment issued a statement on June 21, expressing their apologies to the victim and requesting that fans refrain from contacting them further.

The company also expressed their apologies on behalf of Renjun, assuring that they had reached out to the investigation officer to convey their sincerity. They also mentioned that Renjun was actively reflecting on his actions and acknowledged their failure in adequately managing their artists.

On the same day, Renjun posted an apology on his Instagram account. He took responsibility for his actions and admitted that his judgement was impaired, leading to his mistake.

The offender expressed remorse to the victim and urged his fans to refrain from contacting them. He acknowledged his mistakes and assured his fans that he is committed to preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future.

His statement is written as follows,

“I apologize to the person who was harmed by my thoughtless actions yesterday. I always wanted to bring positive energy through my music and performances, but my judgment was severely clouded in the moment, and I think I made a huge mistake. I would like to apologize to the individual who was hurt and affected because of me. My careless actions have caused suffering to the victim. Please stop contacting them. I am deeply reflecting on my actions and will be more cautious to prevent such hasty behavior in the future. I apologize once again to everyone who was hurt because of me.”

Despite the idol’s apology, Korean netizens remained unimpressed. They believed it was insincere and did little to appease the backlash directed towards the individual. Additionally, they criticized the idol for failing to acknowledge that the leaked number did not belong to a sasaeng.

Several comments were read.

“His apology should have had more sincerity, and he should pay for the damages he caused. He also should have said that they aren’t a sasaeng, that he made a mistake, and the person was a victim. I can’t believe his fans are defending him.”

“Why didn’t you say the person wasn’t a sasaeng? I have seen some people say horrible things about the victim.”

“The victim should be the one to decide if he has learned his lesson or not.”

“I can’t believe there are people who think he doesn’t need to apologize.”

“You should have said that they weren’t a sasaeng. That’s the most important part.”
