YGX Academy’s Closure Sparks Departure of Dancers from YG Entertainment

On the evening of April 30th, the official account of YGX abruptly announced that YGX Academy would be ceasing operations. They expressed their regret, stating that “We are sorry to announce that YGX Academy will be discontinuing its operations on April 30th, 2024. We are grateful for your support.”

YGX Academy, run by YG Entertainment, offers choreography lessons for young people worldwide who have a passion for dancing. The classes are taught by experienced dancers who have worked with prominent YG artists like BIGBANG, BLACKPINK, iKON, WINNER, and BABYMONSTER.

Upon receiving the unexpected announcement, fans were left in a state of shock, having just witnessed YGX conduct dance lessons. Several YGX dancers took to their personal SNS accounts to apologize to fans for the sudden news.

Specifically, Park Eun-chong, who dances for BLACKPINK and choreographs for BABYMONSTER, expressed gratitude for everyone who took part in the dance classes. He promised to reunite with them in a more improved role in the future.

I apologize for not being able to inform you beforehand and I am deeply saddened by the sudden disappearance of the place where I dedicated my hard work. In addition, another dancer expressed his thoughts on Instagram, stating, “I recently took part in the final class at YGX. The past 4 years have been filled with countless memories. It was a truly significant time. I am grateful for all the support and love we have received. I am determined to continue improving as a dancer in the future.”

Upon hearing the news of YGX abruptly shutting down, YG fans expressed concern that the dancers may follow in the footsteps of many artists who had left the company. However, it was clarified that the closure only applied to the Academy and that all lessons had been suspended. In essence, YGX continues to operate as a dance team under YG Entertainment.
