The staff of Tougen Anki anime confirmed on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, that the production has been officially approved. Fans can look forward to the premiere of the highly-anticipated dark fantasy anime in 2025. A trailer has been released, introducing the main cast and a key visual of the series.
The Tougen Anki anime is an adaptation of Yura Urushibara’s popular dark fantasy manga series of the same name. The manga was first published in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shonen Champion magazine in June 2020 and has been serialized there ever since.
As of now, the manga consists of 19 volumes, and the 20th volume is scheduled to be released on May 8, 2024.
Tougen Anki Anime Set to Debut in 2025
On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, an announcement was made that Yura Urushibara’s dark fantasy manga series, Tougen Anki, would be receiving a television anime adaptation. This news coincided with the opening of a new website and the creation of an X account. The announcement stated that the anime is scheduled to be released in 2025.
The creators of the Tougen Anki anime have additionally released a promotional video featuring impactful dialogue from the manga. One notable moment in the brief clip is the heartbreaking opening scene that shows the main character, Shiki Ichinose, in tears over the loss of his father.
The brief clip then shifts to a series of dynamic scenes, featuring Shiki’s bewildered responses upon discovering his connection to the Oni bloodline. With fluid action and visually striking animation, the preview builds excitement for the upcoming anime.
Furthermore, the staff officially revealed a key visual for the Tougen Anki anime, showcasing Shiki Ichinose emitting his aura nonchalantly. The Demon Blood within him transforms into a monstrous figure, poised to unleash its berserk nature. The visual also features a collapsed building in the background behind Shiki.
The anime’s official website has also provided details about the main cast members. Kazuki Ura, known for his roles as Yoichi Isagi in Blue Lock and Shota Doi in Shuumatsu no Harem, will be voicing the protagonist, Shiki Ichinose.
As stated on the official site, Shiki is the inheritor of Demon Blood. His life is completely transformed when he is targeted by Momotaru, causing him to discover his true lineage. This leads him to enroll in Rasetsu Academy, a renowned training institution for Demons (Oni).
Kazuki Ura-san will be joined by Hiroshi Kamiya, who portrays Naito Mudano, an instructor at the academy where Shiki enrolls. The last member to be revealed as part of the cast is Kotaro Nishiyama, who plays Jin Kougasaki, described as Shiki’s fellow classmate at the Rasetsu Academy.
It is expected that more cast members will be announced in the near future. However, no information has been released about the staff or production company. Fans will need to patiently await any updates from the official team responsible for the anime.
The dark fantasy anime is inspired by Yura Urushibara’s Tougen Anki: Legend of the Cursed Blood manga series. It tells a contemporary story about the descendants of Momotaru and their encounters with the Oni.
The story centers around Shiki Ichinose, an ordinary human whose peaceful existence is disrupted when he is ambushed by a mysterious individual from the Momotaro Agency. As he flees with his adoptive father, Shiki discovers his true lineage: he possesses the blood of the Oni (Demons).
