Tragic Death of Thai Singer Ping Chayada: A Warning for Massage Practices
Ping Chayada, a promising 20-year-old Thai singer, tragically passed away on December 8 after experiencing severe medical complications following a massage session. Initially seeking relief for neck and shoulder pain, Ping’s treatment took a disastrous turn when the masseuse reportedly twisted her neck, which resulted in full-body paralysis and her untimely death.
Details Surrounding the Incident
On December 9, Thai news outlet Thairath shared insights from Chanthakan Prawhom, Ping’s mother, who provided a detailed account of the harrowing events that led to her daughter’s demise.
According to Chanthakan, Ping had been suffering from persistent neck and shoulder pain since October. Due to her recent surgery, she was unable to administer a massage herself but encouraged her daughter to seek treatment at a traditional massage parlor in Udon Thani with her boyfriend.
Symptoms and Medical Response
After her initial visit to the massage center, Ping began to experience alarming symptoms, including paralysis, shaking, and severe mobility issues. Despite her deteriorating state, she continued to receive massages, which only exacerbated her condition. Concerned that her daughter might have a dislocated cervical vertebra, Chanthakan took Ping to a hospital for evaluation. Unfortunately, the medical staff there dismissed her concerns and denied her a crucial X-ray.
Chanthakan recalled, “The doctor at Udon Thani Hospital couldn’t fathom that a regular neck and shoulder massage could dislocate a vertebra. When they saw Ping’s trembling hands, they speculated drug use instead of investigating further. All they offered were painkillers and sent us home.”This lack of thorough medical evaluation delayed the necessary treatment for Ping.
Following further examinations at different hospitals, an X-ray confirmed the dislocation of her cervical vertebra. Ping was readmitted to Udon Thani Hospital, but her health rapidly declined, leading to severe complications, including brain inflammation, sepsis, and pneumonia, thereby requiring intensive care unit (ICU) treatment.
Final Days and Community Response
On the evening of December 7, medical staff reached out to Chanthakan to discuss the possibility of life support for Ping. Realizing her daughter was beyond saving, she declined, saying, “I knew Ping wouldn’t stay with us much longer. Her lungs were severely swollen, and the sepsis had spread to her brain.” Tragically, Ping Chayada succumbed to her health complications the next day.
Ping’s untimely death has ignited widespread outrage across Thailand, with calls for accountability directed at the massage parlor and the initial healthcare providers for their negligence. Current investigations are focusing on the massage center’s operations and licensing, while medical professionals are emphasizing the dangers associated with aggressive neck manipulation that could lead to serious vascular injuries and even death.
Amidst this tragedy, Ping Chayada’s boyfriend declared intentions to file a lawsuit against the massage parlor for the fatal incident resulting from improper practices. The community remains in shock and mourning over the loss of the young singer.
