Sayuri, a talented Japanese pop singer known for her memorable opening and closing theme songs, has tragically passed away at the age of 28.

Despite her young age, Sayuri made significant contributions to various renowned anime during her brief yet impactful career. Fans of My Hero Academia will remember her captivating track ‘About a Voyage’, featured in Season 4.

Additionally, she lent her voice to ‘Sekai no Himitsu’ for the first season of Edens Zero, and ‘Tower of Flower’ for Lycoris Recoil. Perhaps her most notable contribution outside of My Hero Academia was her haunting song ‘Sore wa Chiisana Hikari no Youna’ on the mystery anime series Erased.

The announcement of her passing was made via her official X/Twitter account, revealing that she had been battling functional dysphonia along with a previously undisclosed chronic condition. Sayuri passed away on September 20, 2024.

Fans have been sharing heartfelt tributes to the talented vocalist, whose music elevated many beloved anime franchises. One Redditor remarked, “That Erased ED is one of my favorite Japanese songs. It’s always part of my playlist. She was a gem, RIP.”

Another fan commented, “Heikousen is one of my favorite ending songs… Now it will hit deeper. I’m truly shocked and deeply saddened to learn that Sayuri is no longer with us, but her voice will continue to resonate through her music,” shared a third admirer.

Sayuri’s journey began when she won a national singing contest in 2012, allowing her to leave school early to chase her dreams as a performer. Over her career, she released two studio albums, one in 2015 and the other in 2022, along with several singles, music videos, and a remix album.

In March 2024, she and her husband announced their marriage, and by July 2024, Sayuri disclosed she would take a break from singing due to health issues.
